  1. Damn, I look away for a minute and this happens...at his best about as deep as shit gets.(in a good way)
  2. No comments? Then can I assume you all agree with me? That would be a first...
  3. What if Joe F had joined Miles instead of Grossman &/or Leibman? Same difference, or not?
  4. Yeah, but it's still Led Zep, so it's still overblown and empty. (no ellipses)
  5. I thought the Hardman & Maupin edition Horace Silver stuff on youtube was just a nice contrast; nothing more, nothing less.
  6. I'll have ti get that, just so I can mention it to him!
  7. I got the Bud Freeman with my winnings from the Grey Cup pool, good stuff.
  8. Even more true for orphan cars like Studebaker...
  9. Maybe the're punishing me for not spending v. much time in SK this year...
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thv0ZX4-LuQ
  11. Wish i could, but I've got two aged pets running up vet bills currently. Nice set.
  12. I forgot to mention my friend and fine guitarist, Terry Robb.
  13. But in any event, the position that freemasonary has had any discernable influence or inspiration on jazz music as art form is clearly wishful thinking, delusional and quite historically incorrect. That's what they want us to think....
  14. Since you mentioned Derek Bailey, I hear a connection to him in John Fahey, who recorded much besides blues, but whose guitar playing is pretty much blues-based. Also I think the guitar playing on Muddy Waters' Folk Singer is particularly fine - Muddy and Buddy Guy on acoustics.
  15. What exactly is this Brotzman/Sharrock mentioned above?
  16. In additions to all that great work on Hi, I believe Teenie and his cohorts also played on Slim Harpo's "Tip On In"
  17. Threadgill makes me think of Matana Roberts (and vice versa). I'm completely in awe of your ability to get things done, either your own playing projects or the compilations of others work would be fulltime by itself for most people. Or Muhal, or Tom Harrell, not that they need to be giving you stuff, but maybe they have some leftovers that just don't fit their other projects.
  18. and I can feel yours, so to speak...
  19. Too much unconvention to be alone! Chess records' current owners should put out a CD of all the dates Muddy was a sideman on, I counted it and it's a v. nice full CD's worth - this, some little Walter, some Sunnyland Slim, some Jimmie Rodgers, I must be forgetting something. A CD of Little Walter sideman dates, apart from Muddy that is, would be nice too.
  20. Just an update to say she's doing fine, and we're going to have some kind of party this fall to celebrate my 60th and 20 years together. If you're in Portland, OR then you're welcome to come.
  21. Not much of a hobnobber, even when I was writing about music on a regular basis, but I must mention the one name musician I've played with as an exceptionally nice guy: Perry Robinson and lots of local musicians here in Portland - Dover Weinberg, Carlton Jackson, Jack McMahon, Jackie from Smegma, Jennifer from Sound Sunday Pleasure, Jim Mesi, Steve Bradley, Dave Stewart, Paul Jones, Jan Celt, Peter Ford, etc.; and from the Twin Cities - Scot Fultz, Tim Duroach, all the guys from Straight No Filter and the Pettiford project. And from Saskatoon, Lee Kozak and Bill Richards (now in Edmonton).
  22. this is well worth checking out http://www.amazon.com/Janice-Scroggins-Plays-Scott-Joplin/dp/B000003J06 lots of other performances on youtube
  23. I didn't know her, although I've heard her a number of times, but I certainly know lots of others who did, including my Co-worker Jan who's sitting about 10 ft away and who recorded Plays Scott Joplin
