  1. How 'bout all the MD singles? On full length CDs though, no 5 minutes CDs please!
  2. "It was very cold in Regina." It's November, this should go without saying... Are you doing a pool/contest/whatever this year? If so I take the 'Riders by 2.
  3. Preach Brother by Don Wilkerson, just possibly the greasiest record ever made with piano (Sonny Clark) instead of B3
  4. We've had this conversation before, but I reinterate - any Great American Songbook that doesn't include Willie N and Smokey R and Woody G and Chuck B and....is worse than useless to me.
  5. We have a few Aebersold and a few Hal leonard already.
  6. Loved the Velvets, back when they were still together, less a fan of the solo work, but still an interesting dude, to say the least.
  7. 'to reify' is to treat an idea like it's something you'd meet walking down the street - in connection with jazz recordings, it's treating officially released labums as if that's the whole story, when in fact the're only snapshots, not the whole life - I think Herbie H said something to that effect. fn-Social Construction of Reality, something I read in college a long time ago...
  8. I thought they did a better job with Ellingtonia than WSQ, good stuff
  9. And yet, in S'toon people think he's a saint...my brother claims if he flys thru and doesn't get off the plane the daily still reports it!
  10. Ted, I'm still here and my daughter is still an unalloyed joy. Everything else (which is actually ok if not totally great), is secondary. Thanks for asking.
  11. Not directed at me, I trust... OMG, no! Didn't think so, but thanks for the confirmation (gratuitous Bird reference, What would Crouch make of that?)
  12. Reminds me of Merle Travis' "So Round, So Firm, So Fully Packed", kinda.
  13. Maybe he should take his own advice re analogies - just because you can doesn't mean you should...
  14. I'd be all for us buying cheap instruments and lending them, but I don't think that's going to happen.
  15. Not directed at me, I trust...
  16. This kind of "old paper" should be pretty collectible among hardcore fans of the classic Mustangs now. Reminds me, I need to get the paper for my Studebaker from the museum - it's $40 and makes a nice display for shows even if you haven't restored to total originality. I'm particularly interested in seeing if mine came with front discs or if that was a retrofit. OMG! Redd said all kinds of stuff that nice young lady didn't need to be hearing!
  17. Been on a bit of an RSJ binge, BBQ Dog & Power Tools are every bit as fine as I remembered...just got No Wave and am still warming up to it.
  18. Yes, it comes and goes, but has been on an uptick recently...don't know why. Just turned 59.
  19. I've been asked to give my input at work (Mult Co Library, best public library system in America) as to whether we should acquire some of the Hal Leonard Play-along books/CDs or something else similar. Any thoughts?
  20. Nice parody (I hope), but how many (any) did they sell? And no, I'm not thinking that my library should buy it!
  21. WHA also meant that Gordie Howe got to play on a line with his sons, but also that not everyone now realizes what a great player he was.
  22. http://www.theonion.com/articles/god-reveals-he-occasionally-eats-humans,34264/ how 'bout this? http://www.theonion.com/articles/weird-man-begins-every-morning-by-dousing-his-nake,34304/ that's funny! And what about names like Cheif or Scout or just Indians, which are admiring, at least on the surface? And how 'bout some freaking jobs on the Rez and to heck with what anyone calls their darn sports teams?
  23. I heard Lovano be great and kind meh on the same day at Newport, but I think the difference in temp between the main stage in the sum and the side-stage in the shade was playing havoc with the horn players...
  24. Special drummer, very special bandleader, unique career tragetory, definitely will be missed by me.
