  1. Cuscuna's discography, I believe, which is plagiarized here: https://www.jazzdisco.org/blue-note-records/catalog-4200-series/
  2. Butter is maybe my third favorite harmonica player, after Little Walter and Jr. Wells, but that's still pretty much head and shoulders above the crowd. Bloomfield I have mixed feelings about, but when he was on he was exhilarating. Bishop gets lost in the mix, no doubt unfairly.
  3. No, it has some nice playing by all concerned, but almost everything he did til '69 or so is a stronger album, Dialogue especially.
  4. You & me both, I just bought two things I could swear I owned at one time but can't find or remember getting rid of... Hell getting old, but it's a pleasant surprise to realize that I'm married to the most perfect woman (for me) ever!
  5. Mayall certainly did have an impact, largely due to his various alumni. That EP is interesting, but a missed opportunity since it could have had Green & Bloomfield together.
  6. I think it was Hoffman Forums, could've been a rumor/assumption...but they've been pretty well hooked up regarding this series. If you leave off "If Ever I Would Leave You" then the two LP sides are roughly 20 & 22 minutes long.
  7. I think the're going to drop a tune for The Kicker, to preserve sound quality.
  8. Butterfield is a far better player than Mayall, better singer too. Drawing any equivalence between them is lazy and sloppy, but I think you know that.
  9. That's quite the mental picture!
  10. It is indeed mind-blowing. And in Cincinnati, not NY or LA. Perhaps the greatest loss to American culture in the last 50 years or so is the loss of distinctive regional styles, but at least they still eat that strange concoction, Cincinnati chili.
  11. Farell's albums pretty much map the rise AND fall of CTI for me, IMHO YMMV etc. Much of his early sideman work is stellar as well.
  12. Miles was quite vocal in his admiration for Willie's singing, he recognized that he didn't phrase like a typical country singer at all but more like Miles himself. That said the tune may well have been named after the fact, maybe even by someone other than Miles. Not like Miles was going to explain it to you in any case.
  13. I've got a CDR of the raw takes of "Go Ahead John" from the Jack Johnson box plus the final mix from Big Fun, often just leave it in in the car to hear random bits of it's annoying, astounding glory.
  14. I own, and enjoy, things with worse sound than this...but the're also better/most unique than this.

  16. Iverson is only superficially nicer to Oscar than Miles was and he takes far longer to say it.
  17. I liked that Oscar Xmas stuff, might actually buy that.
  18. Yes it is unusually short on LP, and if "I Remember You" is added to the first side it's still only just over 20 minutes, but maybe Alfred didn't think it 'fit' - he seemed to have strong feelings about sequencing...
  19. Regarding Bruce: I've probably said this here before, but I'm old and I repeat myself - as someone else (I forget who) said, I can hear what he's going for, but for me it just doesn't work, maybe because what he's going for is a mix of inherently incompatible elements, maybe not, but in a perfect world he'd be a nonperforming songwriter for his buddy Southside Johnny who'd have a slightly more respectable cult following than he does now.
  20. A jazz 'very good'?
  21. My take, FWIW, is that while he certainly can be a bit of a steamroller and I don't go out of my way to buy things he's on and don't buy his records at all, I have many things that he's on and often enough enjoy his playing on them. And he's Canadian, so bonus points!
  22. Oops typo - I didn't start listening to jazz in earnest til '73/4, and At what point do we consider "style" over the actual musics? "Styles" are very much imposed categorizations and have the notion of a "golden" or "classic" age hardwired into them (and not without good reason). But music continues to evolve, whether we evolve along with it or not. There is no one "classic era" of music, just moments in time where the people who make musics are in a more fuller sync with the people who receive them than others. - JSangry - what he said!
  23. sonnymax - I should have said/meant to say, as far as I know they (the 2 ST & GG's Visions) aren't on domestic BN CDs, I have the STs on Applause and I know Visions has been on CD in Japan, what are the other issues of this material? Genuinely curious, not trying to be argumentative.
