If there are no time constraints, I'd like to join in as well. A small suggestion. I suppose a software could be written for logging in the answers and for the fastest guesser to win a free cd from a pool of cds we put together. Yearly champion will win the coveted "Yes, I have no life, but at least I got this Joe Thomas cd" award.

They look VG+/NM- and play like VG. Some of the ones I got. They're expensive, but I always manage to pick them up cheap. Because I really like the music.

Guys, this is a modern classic. I got a promo copy the other day and have been spinning it since. It's due Tuesday. Do yourselves a favor - obtain! Those who dig the styles of Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider [and have one Vienna Art Orchestra lp ], Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, you'll love it. What's killin' is the soloing on this cd, the solos are so good, by all the guys. I feel guilty for buying a promo 2 days before the street date, but I just couldn't pass it by. For the risk of being overly enthusiastic I'd say that yesterday music was worthy of the "State of the Tenor" treatment. Number one -- Simply breath-taking playing by Lovano. He ruled yesterday, with child's audacious inventiveness, Vulcan's power and Solomon's mind. Frisell's playing is akin to Fripp's in a way that one can come back to it again and again, finding things that were not perceived at first. There were so many nuances coming out of his axe that it was almost impossible to imbibe everything on the spot. Paul Motian weaved a rhythmic web so tight that Lovano and Frisell had no chance but to play the way they did yesterday. But enough pontificating. Let's just say that I would buy a boxed set of this 2-week engagement in a heart-beat. Jazz Gods have smiled upon us. Another week of this magic is ahead. I can't wait to go back to the Vanguard for more!

Citizens dig free outdoor gigs. I wonder how many sets Hill would sell out if he was playing in a club in KC.

It's sad to hear about gigs drying up for you. I'm sure after the Labor Day things'll pick up. They do for many professions. What's going in on in Europe gig-wise, I wonder. Just checked out a few of the Frankfurt jazz clubs on-line and they mostly feature local musicians, the only American name I saw was Richie Cole...

I've changed my mind about Reach Out after hearing it 5x in the last 2 days. It's far from a "superb session", like someone said, but definitely not as bad as others[and I] proclaimed it to be. It's solid! Shame about the recording. It's got to be one of the worst studio-recorded cds I have. That's one of the reasons why I listen to Reach Out so infrequintly. Especially Benson's guitar. It sounds like it was recorded in a big plastic bag. Morganized, have you picked it up?

Based on the recommendation of my friend Cali, I got Fiddler on the Roof and it is indeed a sweeeet session! A total eye-opener. Even friends of avant-garde might find something to sink their teeth into.
