  1. This obviously got very bad distribution. I had a hard time locating a copy. But it really was worth the search. Rooster Ties summed it: a gem. I see it at the used record stores practically all the time. That good?
  2. Park Avenue Petite, that's me baby, one vote. Blue Mitchell plays it so well. The whole band is simply first rate on Blue Soul. Coincidentally, they play his Minor Vamp, as well as his arrangements of Polka Dots and Horace Silver's Nica's Dream. Petite is a very soulful piece by Golson. Thanks for including it.
  3. Rooster, relax, it's just something i said... doesn't mean it's true. B) Has anyone here gotten a carpal tunnell yet?
  4. The money is not the same as in NYC, I'd think.
  5. The Incomplete Works of Richard Twardzik A Crutch for the Crab
  6. Brad, if you could buy only one album by Ahmad I would highly recommend "Ahmad Jamal at the Pershing - But Not For Me". It's the album that made him famous. My first Jamal cd! Poinciana was probably played a lot on the radio after it came out. I also have "Poinciana Revisited", from 1969, also a live set, also nice, but the original is the original.
  7. Wynton - "Ornette is the shit!" Ornette - "Wynton is the shit!"

You know, Jim, I never asked him about it, simply because I didn't know of this album. And he's the kind of man who doesn't like to pontificate about his past, but would rather answer direct questions. I will ask him about his role in this record, knowing his firm stance against the drugs and what they did to his friends and colleagues. Re:Composer royalties. Pure specualtion on my part, but if he co-composed the record or parts of it, it would definitely be heard in the music, stylistically at least. What do you think?

Tom, I don't think the producers had to go far and wide to assemble this band. Miles' 50s quintets were almost 100% composed of heroin users, perhaps Blakey's as well. But the premise of this Hope record is unprecedented, at least to my knowledge. I want to hear it.
  10. Wilson Memorable music.
  11. You would fit right in at the "Fat Cat" here in NYC. Don't know anything about their booking policies and reimbursments, but they NEED you. Thery got some lame hard bop bands playing, along with the good people. It's in the Greenwich Village, lots of students, etc. Another one that would be right up your alley is definitely the "St.Nick's Pub" in Harlem. The locals would definitely appreciate some authentic greaze till 3 am. "Smoke" has a B-3, the patrons come to hear exactly the stuff you guys play.

    There's also this little album.
  14. Very cool song. Very well sung. Liner says that "She sings...with her daughter, Traci, in mind." The kind of song I wish Ornette did on one of his Atlantic records. Imagine the whole album of covers by THE quartet, done in, say, 1961-62, on the thorny laurels, as it were!
  15. My best friend takes boxing lessons in LA from a former Soviet champion. Man, this guy is in a great shape for a 65 year old! I asked him about the fight. His opinion was 1.The fight definitely had to be stopped because the cut was bad. 2.Lewis would've finished off Klit had the fight went on.
  16. He he. I remember reading a similar description in Orwell's "Down and Out in Paris and London". Must be the Brussels sprouts.
  17. You think it had anything to do with the music selection?
  18. Jim S should know this place. It's in Dallas. Perhaps catesta will be interested. Anyway, hurry up, auction'll be over soon. A nice way to retire...but not for $225,000.
  19. Sounds like she's longin' for love. You might want to pay her a visit with a six-pack of Brooklyn Lager and some Tony Bennett. A word of advice - DO NOT try to counter her crap with playing your music loud. You cannot win.
  20. Any last minute ideas, folks?
  21. Clem, what vinyl alternatives are there to this 2cd set? The 1970s BN twofer?
  22. David is that a picture of two Russian 14 year old would-be lesbians, the pop group Tatoo?
