  1. PM sent on the Kenton set.
  2. I'll take the Kenton if it is still available.

    Thanks!

  3. One is never going to like every act in a jazz festival of this size. At least it's not all smooth crap or non-jazz for the first 8-10 headliners like some festivals.
  4. The bootleg is the one that has Fats opening by singing, "Oh, mama, mama, mama, they got me in the crack..."
  5. Try uploading it to archive.org, then share the link here. I'm a member, but I haven't uploaded anything there yet. I'm still exploring it.
  6. Are you talking about links to a song from a commercial release, or to a broadcast?
  7. I ordered the Benedetti boxed set. My card was charged today, but I haven't seen a shipping number so far.
  8. One of George Duvivier's last recording sessions, according to the posthumous discography published by The Scarecrow Press, was a duo recording with James Williams which was never released. I asked the pianist about that date and he told me in so many words that he wasn't satisfied with his playing, though Duvivier was great.
  9. I just received a reply from the Stanford University Library. They dated the performances as being September 15, 1967. They evidently don't have the video footage from the public television broadcast. Here is what they have in their collection: Jazz Violin Conclave RAY NANCE and trio 1. The Man I Love [incomplete] JEAN LUC PONTY and trio 2. Sunday Walk 3. Carol’s Garden SVEND ASMUSSEN, RAY NANCE, JEAN LUC PONTY and quartet 4. [Unidentified septet] 5. [No content] DIZZY GILLESPIE QUINTET 6. [Sudden Samba?] 7. Gentle Rain [incomplete] genre JEAN LUC PONTY, violin ; with GEORGE GRUNTZ, piano ; NIELS HENNING ØRSTED PEDERSEN, bass ; DANIEL HUMAIR, drums SVEND ASMUSSEN, RAY NANCE, JEAN LUC PONTY, violins ; with JOHN LEWIS, piano ; NIELS HENNING ØRSTED PEDERSEN, RAY BROWN, basses ; LOUIS BELLSON, drums DIZZY GILLESPIE QUINTET (DIZZY GILLESPIE, trumpet ; JAMES MOODY, alto saxophone, flute ; MIKE LONGO, piano ; RUSSELL GEORGE, electric bass ; OTIS "CANDY" FINCH, drums)
  10. Hunter Thompson Fred Thompson Fred Waring
  11. Nothing in the Lord Discography about an air check recording.
  12. I have the LPs that Fantasy put out in their Prestige line. In some cases, the source material was damaged or lost, like the 1943 Carnegie Hall concert. I think some of the others were edited to choose the most interesting selections, rather than just issue complete shows from 1944, 1946 and 1947. I haven't listened to them in awhile and never bought the CD editions.
  13. Gordon MacRae Carmen McRae Carmen Miranda
  14. El Cid Sid Caesar Cesar Romero
  15. That's one reason I resisted buying a second home for weekend getaways. I don't want the hassle of the upkeep and added expenses, which would be better invested in new music vs. having to digitize stuff for travel (there would never be enough) to the other house.
  16. Too many celebrities think that money is in endless supply and buy plenty of things they don't really need. Nicolas Cage, anyone? Or any number of pro athletes who have had the same issue?
  17. I like the Gazette as well, though that top ten list that was linked in a recent issue had a few ridiculous choices. Mosaic will have to continue to focus on what they can do well while also selling a decent amount of copies. It always seemed to me that whenever they did a Capitol box, it inevitably went on sale at a lower price at some point, though I think the Nat King Cole was an exception. I wish someone could get into the Monterey Jazz Festival collection at Stanford University and do a decent job finding releasable music which could sell. It seemed like Concord's effort was half-hearted and the titles quickly ended up deleted.
  18. In transcribing my interview, I also learned that Ponty appeared by himself with the Modern Jazz Quartet at that same festival.
  19. Chocolate Williams Vanilla Ice Daryl Strawberry
  20. I'm transcribing an hour long phone interview I did earlier this week with Jean-Luc Ponty, though I have to condense it to around 1800 words. Yeah, I know, I should have posted a CD...this is was I was spinning just prior to getting back to work.
  21. Jazz Messengers has always been great. Well packaged and the last few have been sent to me from Spain via FedEx so I received them quickly. I have never had to return anything. I
  22. Not everyone gets a thrill out of listening to stand alone solos without the entire song. I finally ordered the Parker set today.
  23. I've seen it, but never picked it up. Trombonist Bob Havens, who was a regular at the Atlanta Jazz Party for most of its existence, was a member of Welk's orchestra.
  24. I waited awhile and missed some early sets, but I have 126 regular Mosaics (including the large boxed sets and three individual LPs released early on), all of the Mosaic Selects, all of the Mosaic Singles (except the contemporary series) and the Jazz Icons DVD boxed set. I've tried to do my part to keep them going. I think that I'm finally going to buy the Charlie Parker set soon. Edited: I forgot there at least three single LPs: the Earl Hines/Pete Johnson/Teddy Bunn, the Port of Harlem Jazz Men, and the Benny Morton/Jimmy Hamilton.
  25. I was told by Anthony Barnett of the AB Fable label that these performances were issued on a DVD, but possibly mislabeled as being from 1968. I'm certain of the year because of Jean-Luc Ponty's comments.
