  1. I will take them all, if you have them. David Liebman - Colors (Hatology 600) David Liebman - The Long Distance Runner (Hatology 628) Marc Copland - David Liebman Quartet - Lunar (Hatology 583) Marc Copland And... (Hatology 593) Marc Copland Solo - Time Within Time (Hatology 619)
  2. Seriously, he did use synthesizer while working on new compositions in his home studio and was rumored to be issuing an all synthesizer album (mentioned in the liner notes to one Pablo album). During a 2002 interview with him, it didn't seem like he had plans to issue any of this work.
  3. It doesn't look like the states with high taxes and oppressive laws did too well. Good luck to New Yorkers, who allow greedy politicians and incompetent judges to take away their property for a private developer to build a basketball arena and high rise condos.
  4. For a change, try Spike Jones' abbreviated version!
  5. Uptown has just reissued Philly Jones Dameronia: Look, Stop and Listen, featuring Johnny Griffin plus Kenny Dorham: The Flamboyan, Queens, NY 1963. I've not yet heard both discs all the way through, though I'm impressed with the detailed booklets, which are so full of photos and liner notes that they are difficult to get out the jewel box. That sure beats releases with little more inside than a thank you list to fifty plus friends, relatives and colleagues. Of course, it is nice to be thanked inside, if you're on the receiving end!
  6. I couldn't help but notice the "local pickup only" designation. Since he's in Zurich, that limits it to Europeans or those who have their own private jets.
  7. Chris, I should have remembered your involvement with the Riverside album, which has long been a favorite of mine. Meade Lux Lewis had one additional outing after recording the Riverside date, the rather forgettable Phillips LP Boogie Woogie House Party, which I seem to recall was recorded in 1962.
  8. In addition to the out of print Mosaic set, look for these titles: The Blues Piano Artistry of Meade Lux Lewis: http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:gxftxqqgldde Alternate Takes Live Performances & Soundies: http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:dzfrxqqjldfe I'm not a big fan of Cat House Piano, though I'm keeping my copy. One to avoid is the Phillips LP Boogie Woogie House Party: http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:hxftxqqgldde
  9. I wonder if any media outlet is paying a reviewer a fair amount, given the time and effort required to hear everything? The usual flat rate and 300 words is about what I'd expect from a lot of them.
  10. Today I found a copy of Buddy Collette's Dooto LP Buddy's Best, which is playing now.
  11. How do you order from Amazon France if you can't understand French? I was able to find the People Time set but never to get to the buy page... Too bad the U.S. label isn't offering it.
  12. AAJ the website doesn't pay, though AAJNY the newspaper does. When everyone is only assigned to review artists and CDs they are already comfortable hearing, then you will rarely have negative reviews in a website or publication. I frequently pitch artists I haven't yet heard, sometimes, I'm surprised, sometimes I'm disappointed. One thing I learned: All Music Guide only licenses out good reviews. 1 1/2 star scathing reviews aren't shared with sites like Barnes & Noble, Swapacd, etc.
  13. A recent CD I reviewed on Gambit mentioned a November 1964 radio interview with Eric Dolphy. It must have been conducted by a seance.
  14. PM sent on: Marmarosa, Dodo Dodo's Bounce Fresh Sound 12
  15. The Byard Futura LP Parisian Solos was reissued a year or so ago, I think on Musica. Are these the tracks? A Tribute to Jimmy Slide Love Is Here to Stay Willow Weep for Me Bugle Call Rag When Lights Are Low Dedicated to Bob Vatel of Ten Gallons Isle to Isle Shiny Stockings Besame Mucho Going Home Blues I'll have to check when I get home.
  16. I've never understood people who try to sell everything at once, where they'll typically not get bids compared to breaking things up.
  17. PM sent on: Mulligan, Gerry Mainstream of Jazz Emarcy (Japan) 10 Paris Reunion Band French Cooking Gazell 7 Paris Reunion Band For Klook Gazell 8
  18. I've long owned the Affinity LP of this session, though it's not going anywhere. Good luck!
  19. Dolphy also appears on some tracks of John Lewis' Atlantic CD The Wonderful World of Jazz.
  20. I was unhappy when I discovered the use of real rust on the Verve Evans set. My father gave me a tip: clean it with Comet. That seems to have slowed the rust's progress considerably. I hope the bozo who conceived the package is out of the CD design business for good, along with the nut who designed the Charlie Christian long box.
  21. There are many obvious candidates, like: Bud Shank: A Spoonful of Jazz (music of the Lovin' Spoonful) Joe Pass: The Stones Jazz (Rolling Stones' songs, arranged by Bob Florence) I'm sure neither artist was interested in the material, just a paycheck during a very difficult period in their careers.
  22. She wasn't recorded nearly often enough. My condolences to her family.
  23. One FB poster believes the cause of death was a head-on car crash, though I haven't found anything on line.
  24. I just learned through Facebook that Stacy Rowles has passed away. I haven't learned any details.
  25. Michel Petrucciani, in my view, tending to be at his best in solo or trio settings. I don't care for the stuff where he added the lame Adam Holzman on synthesizer. Also worth getting is Michel's sideman appearance with Stephane Grappelli. Power of Three was also issued as a DVD.
