  1. OOPS. Done got it all misremembered wrong. Thanks for keeping me honest!!
  2. The whole thing?? Wimp. Would've taken b3-er only 4 bars, or so I've heard told.
  3. Probably not all that rare, and probably not worth a king’s ransom -- but in some ways, my most prized jazz-related possession is maybe Duke's autograph. Not such a big deal, except my mother personally asked "Mr. Ellington" for his autograph when she was in college, back in the early-to-mid 50's. She was on the concert committee that booked him for the gig. He was very apologetic about the band not wearing their "A" suits, as they were off at the cleaners. Mom said their "B" duds were as nice as any band she'd ever seen, and wouldn't have ever noticed except for the fact he mentioned it. She said he was an absolute gentlemen, and a real pleasure to have spoken with, even if only briefly. Oh, she had him autograph the back of the year-long concert pass, which was for four concerts. Three were punched on her ticket, so she must have missed one of the shows. A few years ago, she had it framed, along with an article from the local paper describing his visit. (It wasn't a review, so much as a preview of the concert.) I never even knew she had the thing until 6 or 7 years after I got deeply into jazz. It came as a COMPLETE surprise to me when I got it for Christmas one year. Thanks Mom!!!!
  4. From what I've heard, it's more like only a few of Wright's homes never leaked.
  5. I'll 2nd that. Used a UHaul for a local move once (just to move some couches, we only rended the truck for 4 hours, for like $50), and I was VERY unimpressed with the truck. Wouldn't dream of using them for a long-distance move. UHaul =
  6. Thanks for the info, Rooster. Just curious, why do you think the other two will never be issued? Just doesn't seem (to me) to be as likely that they'd be released as singles -- since neither one was released back in the day, as actual "albums" all unto themselves. Not sayin' it wouldn't never happen, but ANDREW! and COMPULSION seem much more likely to get the Conn treatment, at least first.

    Plenty... http://www.jasonmoran.com/disco.html
  8. Smokestack's been out as a Conn, and in Japan as well (maybe more than once). There are eight sessions total on the Mosaic, four of which have never been released on CD in any other format. Those four are... ANDREW! the ONE FOR ONE session with Freddie Hubbard and Joe Henderson COMPULSION the INVOLUTION session with Sam Rivers (really a Hill date) If I were a betting man, I'd say that both ANDREW! and COMPULSION will see the light of day as conns within the next 3 years, 4 tops. We may never see single-disc issues of the other two.
  9. OK, I'll redo my list too, since it's changed a bit from a year ago. Here's my new top-5 list (in no particular order)... Mulgrew Miller Herbie Hancock Jason Moran McCoy Tyner Well, that's four anyway. If I can ever think of anyone else (to bring my total up to five), I'll have to update this post.

All I know is they were going in the studio early in February, so I'm sure the album is probably 6 or 8 months away from being released (my wild guess). Here's the blurb I saw, originally on the BN website... source

'Fraid I think just the opposite. All through the early M-BASE years, I thought Osby was a weaker imitation of Steve Coleman. But since about 1995 or 1996, I think Osby's dates have surpassed Coleman's -- especially those with Jason Moran (or Andrew Hill) on board. (I didn't care as much for ST. LOUIS SHOES, or the live one that followed it, PUBLIC.) INNER CIRCLE and SYMBOLS OF LIGHT are probably my two favorites. But really, anything lead by Osby with Moran or Hill as sideman, is superbad in my book. Dig ZERO, which doesn't get nearly as many accolades as I think it's due. There are live versions of some of the material from ZERO too, on Osby's website, which reveal the tunes in a slightly different light. NOTE: I've heard Osby's next album is just a trio date -- with Jack DeJohnette, and Osby's regular bass player of late, Matt Brewer. No piano, nor any other chordal instrument. I'm hoping this is a return to what are (for me) his glory days, i.e. INNER CIRCLE, SYMBOLS OF LIGHT, INVISIBLE HAND, ZERO, and BANNED IN NY - plus all that live material on Osby's site.
  12. Lord, be careful -- there's a hell of a bunch of fly-by-night scam companies out there, so be really damn careful. Seems I've read half-a-dozen articles on the web (and seen a couple on TV too, one on ABC News that I remember in particular), about the movers showing up, packing up everything on the truck, and driving off into the sunset (with the full truck) -- never to be seen or heard from again. And usually the truck is found a couple months later, mostly empty, and four states away from where it should have been going. So, be ultra-fucking careful who you hire, and beware that you might get what you pay for -- so spending a bit more might be in your own self-interest. I'll do some searching on the web shortly, and see if I can find any articles.
  13. Another ten HERE.
  14. OK, I've got things narrowed down to just a one-disc BFT (instead of two), and feel it's a stronger disc as a result. Only had to disinclude two tracks I would have liked to -- but I'm sure they'll be on my next BFT (which at this rate, won't be for another two years or so). Also, I'm still gonna include the unreleased 2-hour (2-disc) concert as well -- so the entire mailing will be three discs total.
  15. Got my copy of BFT#24 in yesterday's mail, safe and sound. Thanks!!!
  16. Lotta stuff still available from my earlier post in this thread. Lotta crap too. Probably more crap than stuff, but the price is right!!!
  17. Way to fuck it up, catesta.
  18. Hey tonym, I've got a Complete Village Vanguard set (20-bit 1997 U.S. version), that I'd be willing to let go at a pretty reasonable price. Don't know what shipping would be to the U.K. (anyone care to take a guess??), but I'm only looking to get about $32 out of the set itself (is $8 per disc reasonable?). The set is in excellent condition. Or maybe we could work out a trade of some sort. Send me a PM with anything you might have to trade (no live chickens, sea shells, or macadamia nuts accepted ). Or else maybe I could find some U.K. imports on the Dusty Groove site that would interest me, and have you pick them up for me on your side of the pond, and send them my way. Edit: Just sent you a PM.
  19. Found an audio clip HERE (scroll down, just below the album cover). Me likey!!!! Edit: Forget "clip" -- make that a full-length tune, 10+ minutes in length!!
  20. My personal preference would be for guitarists who ignore some of the rules, musically speaking -- while mostly respecting the rules sonically speaking. (Similar to the "inside/outside sax players" discussion we've been having elsewhere on the board.) FWIW, the first name that came to mind as a guitarist who I think did this quite well, is Nathen Page (often misspelled as "Nathan Page". I've only heard him on three or four sessions (all from the 70's), and he didn't record much overall. But his work, especially on Charles Tollivers' COMPASSION, really embodies the "inside/outside" approach I like best, while basically keeping it "inside" in terms of sonics.
