Just having my very first listen to the Chicago 2CD set - very good! Guess that Basin Street will be mighty fine, too (besides Bigard, that is - it's mentioned on the blog that he's doing his usual aimless noodling - usual, that is, for Satchmo All Stars era playing... with Duke he was, uhm, usually, fine).

Hilarious title, too! Is that some british saying? Mine's got a different cover from all the ones a google search seems to turn up. Ronnie in the middle, b/w pic, some writing and some red waves (probably flames, but since when are flames burning horizontally? so it must be waves...), all on white background. It's JHCD 012 from 1991 - there's lots of good music on Ronnie's label that's hardly ever mentioned... aside from some Irakere and George Coleman, I don't have anything yet, got to change that!

That blue cover is the one I know... nice album! Got the Blue Moon/Fresh Sound CD reissue. There's a nice Joe Puma one there, too, "Wild Kitten".

I guess your name isn't Phil Schaap. False starts give him orgasms. I realize there is a place for this (maybe), but I do find it pretty annoying when some of the Verve CDs are so cluttered up with crappy false starts that you have to program your CD player around them. It definitely makes me reach less for some of these CDs to play for casual listening, which I think completely defeats the purpose of reissuing material. Similarly, my tolerance for alternate takes decreases dramatically after 3 versions of the same song. I was looking at some CD recently where there were 5 to 6 takes of each song. Blah. see here - a couple of complete takes, works for me!

Got to love the title of the one on the right! Mine has a different cover though... and I see it's been paired with another album - might be smarter to go for the 2CD version. The other one's lengthy jams with guests - some nice stuff (there's a Tubby 2CD set that's pretty similar).

Great news! Don't have it on pre-order (and want several others first), but it's very good to see it's finally cleared!
