  1. Well, in Switzerland it's dog meat
  2. I never understood the idea of being able to eat the same crap, no matter where in the world you are... but I guess I have a continental mind
  3. Ah, I see. Wasn't aware of that. Good that I got the LP then - will likely sound a bit better than the CD, too, I assume.
  4. I got the Original Albums 5CD set fairly recently, mostly in order to finally get BNaE... have the Legacy editions of the first two and Lost Trident already... I hate this "put in some more tracks and have all the baboons buy the music for the umpteenth time"-policy! What does that mean? Did the old CD (red border) CBS CD omit anything? I got the LP of it a few months ago but haven't yet checked it out...
  5. Guess I got to look for both the Connor and the Hawkins discs, then!
  6. The Chris Connor Titles (5 - with trio of Ronnie Ball, Ben Tucker & Dave Bailey) plus some Coleman Hawkins are on a West Wind CD (2025) - At The American Jazz Festival with Chris Connor, Coleman Hawkins -> these Hawkins titles overlap with another WW CD called Body & Soul Is the West Wind label non legit? Okay, interesting... what else is on that Hawk CD? And does it have MORE Latin American Affairs titles than the Connor/Hawkins disc? Thanks!
  7. With Armstrong, I'm not sure I'll get the Mosaic - but I'm sure I won't get the new box (which in a local shop here was only marginally more expensive than the Bechet - those were the only two they had there... and they cost quite a bit more than from amazon, so...) Anyway, with Satchmo I'll continue with the Fremeaux discs, I assume (got Vols. 1-3 so far). Too many duplicates there already anyway (a dozen Chronos, the Columbia Hot Fives & Sevens box, the RCA box, and in case Fremeaux ever gets to that point, the Decca All Stars Mosaic, too).
  8. Oh, and if you've got a pacemaker, holding these magnetic thingies too close might cause trouble - see, old school is better some times Speaking of old school - were finally back on topic
  9. These aren't what I'd call restaurants... needs to have a chef, at least
  10. But those can be used to pinch your nipples, too
  11. Oh, thanks a lot for finding and quoting that! The usual half-baked job then... having new stuff in there is great, but duplicating the Scandinavia set and including fewer tracks than previously issued of that other set is moronic, to put it mildly... still, it's of interest to me as I have only got one Storyville CD of Pops, other than the Scandinavia box.
  12. I quite enjoyed the bits from the Bechet that I've heard so far... true, my ears are lacking - and the comparison I've got is the crappy Membran 10CD set (got the Mosaics as well but haven't yet compared with them).
  13. Fairly old news... but I can't remember where on the board it has already been discussed. Lon: are you sure it's all been out before? I tried to compare tracklistings from allmusic with one for the new box and couldn't quite piece it together.
  14. How many novembers will come and go before we see any Horo release? (Answer: innumerably many... unless of course you believe in some kind of end time religion such as Christianity)
  15. Serious question: what's "this month's"? January, February? Merikins are always ahead of the pack... will look for it but got to know roughly when to look
  16. The West Wind omits "Lover Man" and "Ismaa"! KD is on "A Night in Tunisia" (KD, Fuller, Mann, Ball, Tucker, Bailey, Mantilla), but not on "Halley's Comet" (Al & Zoot w/Ball, Tucker, Bailey). Me, I'm still confused about the "other" (?) existing LP(s?)... Chris Connor? Where are her tracks to be found? Any legitimate release? Another West Wind boot? And how many different LPs were there ever made from these dates?
  17. Oh, thanks for helping my lousy memory, Chuck!
  18. guess that story I remember was about another concert at the 1986 (or 1987) Mt. Fuji Blue Note festival... some recorings have shown up over on dime years ago. Must have been a comment there? Or a comment in the Moncur Select's booklet, maybe?
  19. That's the concert where the wind blew off the arrangements from the music stands of they fellows, right?
  20. I know the copy I have of that Vol. 2 is a first pressing (bought directly from Prestige as soon as it was released). It looks like yours. No real deepgroove, cover photo is slightly darker. Dead wax includes VanGelder stamp plus the following indications NJLP 8288 (A/B) and PRLP 7294 (A/B). allow this learning neophyte a question: isn't that a deepgroove right there in the small black "ring"? well, "ring"... the area between the inner yellow circle and the LONG PLAYING MICROGROOVE yellow area at the bottom...
  21. Tammi Terrell... the Hip-O 2CD set is wonderful!
  22. Art Hillery https://www.swiftpage3.com/speasapage.aspx?X=2V0JXDMQI09FHBHS00ZYWD
  23. Interesting! I only recently discovered these two albums - got the Fresh Sound CDs of both of them. Easiest way to get the music - but of course I'd love to have some original vinyl, hence my question about the weird LP yesterday!
  24. Okay thanks! Good to know I needn't go back to the store and grab another duplicate
  25. Okay - weird... found this entry from Paris Jazz Corner: http://www.parisjazzcorner.com/en/dis_fiche.php?ArtNum=38127&LANGUE=uk Which suggests it's from the 50s. Clueless about it, myself, which is why I'm asking. So this here's the original Jazztone cover: correct?
