  1. Will listen to the session as recorded on the Mosaic box later today. I saw Andrew Hill's Sextet at North Sea Jazz in 2003. His music was still somewhat impenetrable to me at times back then, so I wish I had enjoyed the concert more.
  2. I'm only familiar with Hoegaarden. If the taste and alcohol content are the same as in Europe, it's a refreshing beer (with a slice of lemon) on a warm day. Probably more expensive than in Belgium & Holland, though.
  3. Thanks, Lon. I think I'll pass on some of the new alternates then.
  4. Other opinions on how essential this alternate take of Autumn Leaves is? I already have the hybrid SACD, so I won't need the SHM for the classic album itself.
  5. I like watching Mads Mikkelsen as a perfect psycho. There is something fascinating for me about this Hannnibal. Being on the autism spectrum myself has something to do with this fascination, but despite my detachment and lack of empathy I'm of course not a psychopath. It's engaging and chilling at the same time. It's more about the characters than the gore freak show for me.
  6. I don't know why I still watch The Walking Dead. It's been so awful so often, but I fast forward through every next episode to see where things will end up going. I guess this storyline is straight from the comics, but it was a sad highpoint in a miserable season. Hannibal is a favourite, though.
  7. The Walking Dead shoots live little girls in the back of the head with a revolver, but Hannibal is still king for eating them.
  8. My hunch is that none of them have been touched sound-wise. F Sorry for the confusion. I meant by subsequent releases of the same material or parts thereof. It's probably not a question on the minds of most people here interested in these re-issues, so best to forget I even asked. It would just derail the conversation and a little detective work with Google should bring some clarity on this matter.
  9. Which of these sets have since not been (partly) improved upon in terms of sound quality (including releases of individual albums)?
  10. An aggressive herd will also do on the internet.
  11. I think there sometimes is a general unpleasantness about the atmosphere on this forum. It's an uninviting place. Becoming more belligerent is a necessary survival trait.
  12. The SHMs retain the order of the 12inch LPs and add bonus tracks. The two Monks and the Milt Jackson cover the complete sessions. The main reason to buy this material again is the SHMs sound better than the RVGs. In my opinion considerably so.
  13. Of his efforts as a leader I've only got Midnight Sun in the BNLT999 edition. It's a fun album, but I'm not planning on getting more Donaldson.
  14. Why does everyone keep calling them bastards?
  15. One copy of the Terry Pollard left on ebay with low shipping costs.
  16. These look interesting... i've heard O'Niell, Eulau and Norton with Braxton on one of those 20+ Standards sets; would be really interested to hear them on some original Braxton stuff. Any thoughts? The Ten Compositions disc contains more Andrew Hill, Wayne Shorter and George Coleman compositions so no original Braxton stuff here.
  17. I switched back to landline only a decade ago. I get to stand out in the crowd when store employees ask me for my mobile number and I get to tell them I'm too cool to bother with cell phones.
  18. Don't forget to get the Hemphill, Dogon A.D., before it goes out of print. International Phonograph links to this internet store which has twenty copies left. I am panicked now... That store asks for 36$ to ship it to EU. However, I could choose a US address of a relative to save these s/h costs, but as a reminder of the old days, they want the billing address of the credit card to be the same as the shipping address... Any ideas? The same store also has 5 copies listed on ebay, shipping $13.85 to the EU.

  20. So are there any members with a personalised license plate? Could Lon's be BluSpec2?
  21. Why don't States simply issue people boring combinations of letters and digits like XT-65-OA?
  22. What's wrong with it? Or are you vinyl only?
  23. The Dolphy is very good indeed. I gave it another spin this morning. I'm going back to simply listening to and enjoying my collection.
