  1. Anyone have any leads on where to purchase this baby? It sounds like it's right up my alley.
  2. I've listened to the rest of the set. Disc 2 which is all the Duets is a little better sound-quality wise and Disc 3 which is all of the Quest recordings, is actually very good. Musically, I really like the Quest recordings alot, but I'm undecided about the Lookout Farm selections. Something about that Fender Rhodes that bothers me. The Duets are pretty cool too. I think this is one of those sets that's gonna require repeated listenings in order to form an opinion one way or the other.
  3. Hey I'm no audiophile by any means but based on your classifications, I'd say "distant/cloudy" would be the best fit. These are live recordings though, so my expectations weren't that high. I'd say the sound quality on Disc 1 is similar to the Lee Morgan - Live at the Lighthouse set - not great, but not terrible either. I need to listen to the other two discs to get the full picture.
  4. I got mine last night and I'm listening to DISC 1 now. I was suprised to see the text also. I'm enjoying it so far, although the sound quality is so-so on this disc.
  5. Nice Avitar Billyboy! That's one of my favorite albums from the '80s.
  6. I lived in Putnam County, about 50 miles North of NYC for 8 years. I bagged one and had at least 10 near misses. The one that I hit came out of nowhere, jumped a guard-rail and I clipped him in the hind quarters. He shook it off and kept running. Meanwhile, my right headlight assembly (retractable lights which were on at the time) was destroyed. I also had two occasions when I got up and took the dog out about 5am and almost got run down by one that came through my property at full gallop. I've since moved closer to the city and haven't seen one since. Down here though, we just had a coyote that ate someone's small dog in their backyard.
  7. Just sent a PM re: Subterranean's soundtrack.
  8. Thanks Lon! Sounds like a perfect artist for the Mosaic treatment.
  9. Who is Freddie Slack? That's a name I've never run across.
  10. I like broken-in strings too. When I used to practice/play regularly (2-3 times week), I'd probably change 'em every month to six weeks or so.
  11. Yeah!, especially Sister Morphine.
  12. I like GHS - That's the one that makes the album for me!
  13. For me it's a toss-up between LET IT BLEED and STICKY FINGERS. No real reason why I didn't include AFTERMATH, I just decided to start with SATANIC... from 1967.
  14. Been revisiting the Stones lately and wondering what your favorite session is from the late 60's thru the mid seventies - their best period IMO.
  15. Looks like I'm gonna have to break down and buy this Snurdy thing. As far as I can tell, it looks as if Dusty Groove is the only source for this. Could I buy this directly from Chuck?
  16. Natural Black Inventions/Root Strata is another session which I like a lot.
  17. I agree completely with Pete's list. A few others to add are: Inflatable Tear Left and Right
  18. I actually enjoy the pop covers on Disc 5 of the Wilson set. They kinda take me back to the "groovy" sixties.
  19. It's pretty good so far. Deals with a radical faction of the Catholic church (Opus Dei) who are attempting to uncover dark secrets kept by a secret society that goes back to the Renaissance, of whom Leonardo Da Vinci was apparently a member.
  20. The Da Vinci Code.
  21. I was listening to Daydream Nation last night. It still holds up very well.
  22. I've never heard Parker, but I'm with you as far as Ayler is concerned.
  23. Anybody dig these guys?
