  1. That's a favorite "slipper" of mine too. Also The Golden Flute. Miles' Blue Moods is another. GoM - Glad to hear that you're ok. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes a close call like that to wake us up.
  2. I agree - Soundin' Off is terriffic!
  3. Tears for Dolphy is excellent - late '60s I believe, not '70s.
  4. By the thread title, I thought that Ornette got up and played with REM. Now that would have been something!
  5. I listened to Disc 1 also. Lateef didn't come to mind when I heard this session, but now that you mention it, there may be some similarities in their style at that point in time. I immediately thought of Sonny Rollins. I'll have to listen again.
  6. That's another expensive hobby! I have two nice axes, a c70's Fender Tele Deluxe and early Gretsch Double Anniversary. I'd love to pick-up an old Danelectro, but the prices are getting crazy.
  7. I dabble in mid-century modern furnishings and contemporary prints. Two very expensive propositions.
  8. Woody Shaw - Stepping Stones Monk - At The Blackhawk Braxton - Dortmund
  9. Finally scored at a garage sale - Horace Silver Blowin' The Blues Away, original pressing, 50 cents.
  10. Same reaction here. My wife said the music 'sounds suicidal'! Ayler sends my wife running for the hills - not a bad thing!
  11. Mine showed up yesterday. No chance of hiding this baby from the wife; it came in box the size of a refrigerator.
  12. That's good news! They're one of my favorite sources.
  13. Just pre-ordered Dance With Death. The Alyer Box is coming too.
  14. Hey! She can cook her "fat ass" off! And I suppose you also read Penthouse for the recipes. Doesn't everyone??
  15. Me like!
  16. Fine looking woman. And much easier on the eyes than some of the other TVFN chefs like that Fat-Ass Contessa.
  17. Going to the BN this Saturday to check out Clark Terry w/ Jon Hendricks. Anyone catch them yet? I'm wondering how his chops are at 84 years old.
  18. Their live show definitely reminds me of the 'Mats. I'm gonna buy a few of their discs, starting with the latest.
  19. I happened to catch a live show of a band called the Old 97s over the weekend on Metro TV and was really impressed. I guess they'd fall into the Alternative/Country category. Dual Telecaster front-line with bass and drums. Songs had some lyrical substance and nice hooks. Live, they kinda reminded me of The Replacements. I was suprised to find that they've been active for about 11 years and have several releases on indie and majors. Any fans out there?
  20. Wolf nailed it in terms of a comparison. I'm not sure which one I prefer though, as they are very different.
  21. I've lost about 50 lbs over the past three years. I started off dieting and then exercising on a regular basis. Now I'm at the point where I exercise every day. At a mininum I do sit-ups and push-ups every day, cardio (running or stairmaster) 4-5 times a week and then some free weights 3 -4 times a week. It sucks! -I hate it, but I don't have to watch what I eat anymore.
  22. I like the Prestige box very much, especially the early sides with Hawkins. It's great to hear Rollins in his formative years as well.
  23. Oh shit - I may have to buy this thing after all.
