  1. Overall I think that Les is a tough but fair critic though I don't agree with him about Herbie. Didn't Les employ congas on t least some of his later records/
  2. Seriously underpaid. They were the bedrock of the Motown sound.
  3. Speaking about Russia the guy slept through the last of the Soviet Union.
  4. Probably not but he was entertaining.
  5. Working in the late morning and then I'm going home and hunkering down while everybody else goes loony.
  6. I'll have to dig out the cd he did with Santana.Another great loss.
  7. Tough choice but I went with Franklin because he was a genius and a rascal. You could make a case for any of these men warts and all.
  8. Is the music on the thing constantly changing or is it like one long annoying tape loop?
  9. He may have done some cheesy things but anyone who recorded extensively as Herbie was entitled to a couple of duds and the good far outweighed the bad. Herbie surrounded himself with great musicians-Dave Pike, Chick Corea,Attilla Zoeller,Sonny Sharrock,Roy Ayers,Willie Bobo and Patato Valdez are just a few that come to mind and Herbie was a damn find musician himself.I'm going to miss him a ton.
  10. I bet Bobby got his kicks on Route 66.
  11. Have Mercy! Have Mercy!
  12. Hollywood Math.Sequel= Cash Cow.
  13. That sounds like something FZ would do.He was really great but he could really get into that monologue mode.
  14. J Larsen you are probably handling this in the right way.Retaliation while understandable can bring about repercussions. It's been my experience that you generally don't have to deal with this kind of person for too long, usually this kind of situation takes care of itself. However if you think or know this is a long term situation(god forbid)then you might want to brush up on your diplomacy skills.
  15. Thanks for the heads up on Cachaito. B)
  16. I'll have to check it out.
  17. What style!!! Adios.
  18. Interesting, isn't it. How's the music? Haven't heard that one, but most of London's Libertys from this era (mid-50s-early 60s) are cool-jazzy/pop affairs. Nice, but nothing heavy (and vise versa) the covers, though are uniformly, uh, well, mmm, you know... Well uh! er! right on time perhaps?
  19. Duly noted Conn and I think you got it right the first time-terminal Doggie dumbness. .I bet mny doesn't stress about burgulars too much.
  20. Nothing quite this exotic but a couple of stories. One they talk about this day in Pagosa Springs several years after it happened was the day a Bear wandered into the local drug store in downtown Pagosa. If there was any lingering doubt that a Bear could clear out a store in a very short period of time that was put to rest that day. One winter morning I was out walking just before dawn when I noticed a group of brown and tan(white?) shapes plowing through some deep snow. This also occured in the downtown area of Pagosa. It turned out to be a herd of Elk.The Elk and I were just a short distance from each other and for a few minutes we held our ground eyeballing each other before the Elk moved off toward the river. It was an interesting encounter.
  21. That dog better hope that the snake was'nt hungry.
  22. Is this set easily available?
  23. I doubt that he could handle the altitude where I'm at and I'm not sure I could handle seeing him like that.I saw Albert Collins a few months before he passed away from cancer.I don't if you ever saw Albert but when he was healthy he was a fairly solid guy but after the cancer he had pretty much wasted away. All things considered he played a fairly good set and I thought what he did under the circumstances was courageous but it still hurt too see it. I don't know if you saw BB King on the A&E special but he sat down during his set or at least during the portions that I saw and I took that as a disturbing sign.I guess it depends on your point of view and IMO there is no right or wrong way to approach it.If you want to see Jimmy,BB or whoever play one last time that's understandable and if you don't that's understandable too.As long as it's a parting well made and all your memories are good I guess that's all that really matters in the end.
