A.A.A.D.D do you suffer from it?
chris olivarez replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Been there done that. -
Driver A may be the one to be immortialized but Driver B is probably loved by his car owner because he brings his equipment home in one piece, the owner doesn't have to endure endless bad publicity and pay large fines(Tony Stewart or Paul Tracy anyone?)and you don't have to win many or any races to win end of the season championships. Driving a race car IMO takes a lot of huevos no matter if you finish third or win the friggin race.

Ken Burns, "JAZZ"
chris olivarez replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I missed this the first time around.I'm interested in watching it and drawing my own conclusions. -
My first reaction was to sourly reply "I Survived" (living in the shadow of Vietnam did that for me-whether you went or not every male of that era had to live with that.)Also massive substance abuse was a ticket for trouble which I avoided only through sheer dumb luck. It wasn't all bad though I saw Miles,Weather Report,B.B King,Dr.John in full New Orleans regalia bringing in a new year was an unforgettable sight and sound also a dynamite r n r tripleheader with the Johnny Otis show,Chuck Berry and Little Richard and these were just a few of the great shows.During this time I entered my chosen profession and fell in love for the first time(did'nt work out.) The results were obviously mixed but it was a pretty interesting ride.

Just what exactly consitutes a "plate of greens"?
chris olivarez replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'll go to bed dreaming about that-arrrghhh!!! -
I was delighted that the recent movie heroes and villians tv special named him the number one hero for his performance in "To Kill a Mockingbird"(I really thought John Wayne was going to bag that one). A true master craftsman and a class act. You can cite any number of Peck performances and be right but I'll go with 12 O' Clock High. Also "The Big Country" if for no other reason he lays a can of whup ass on Charlton Heston.

Man it's been such a long time since I've had any greens. That sounds sooo good. -
I bought it.I don't regret it though I don't listen to it much because I have to be in the right mood for a ballads cd.IMO there's really nothing wrong with it musically and I don't listen to ac radio enough to be totally sick of it. She did an interview recently for the Associated Press where she admitted that for at least awhile she got tired of doing those songs but perhaps not to ruffle any feathers she also said she is looking forward to doing those songs as she is hits the summer concert tour circuit. Norah also addressed the somnobulent nature of the first cd promising that the next one would be more uptempo and funky. BTW she turned in a good version of the blues song "Ruler Of My Heart" on the Dirty Dozen Brass Band's "Medicated Magic" cd. At any rate more power to her I'll continue to follow her career and I hope everything works out for her.

Name some Blue Note cds you find overrated
chris olivarez replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Recommendations
That could be the one and I apologize if I came off as harsh. No session with Jimmy Smith and Kenny Burrell is a waste-it just didn't do it for me. Honest differences of opinion seem to be the theme of this thread and that's cool. B) -
I like my bbq on the spicy side but flavorful.Sweet doesn't do it for me.It's hard to get good bbq in this part of Colorado. The sauce and the meat should be partners not adversaries.

And beware Ravi Shankar questions!!!

JSngry-That story about the Mexican Food place brought back a horrific memory. I went to a Mexican Food place in the town of Gold Hill,Oregon and ordered a chicken burrito.I took one bite of it and discovered much to my dismay that the Chicken that they used was of the canned variety. My friends dog was a happy camper that night and I was a hungry one.

What should i do this weekend?
chris olivarez replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm a bit late on this thread but as a general rule of thumb I would say pick the music over the sports and I'm a big sports fan.The reason I'm saying this is that if you do it just the opposite way there's every chance that you could miss a pleasant social occasion and to make matters worse you're team might lose. I learned this the hard way. -
Welcome Leanne.

Man this brings back memories! I remember when I first heard Jose's version of "Light My Fire" I was totally pissed off I mean how dare he!! Over a period of time I came to understand that he did an extremely difficult thing in remaking that song to fit his own personna. That was one of those songs that was not easy to remake but I came to the conclusion that Jose did it brilliantly! Oh hell! he didn't just "remake it " he reinvented it! Jose is a soulful singer and a superb guitarist.Damn you guys now I'm going to have to get some of his music for my collection!!!

Doesn't Sony control all the CTI material too?
-
I'd like them to reissue Stephane Grappelli's "Uptown Dance". Horacee Arnold's "Tale of the Exonerated Flea" and the Jeremy Steig album the name of which I can't remember but it had a belly dancer on the cover.

It's amazing that he has lasted this long but he is more than just a survivor(though there is something to be said about that especially in Sonny's case). Sonny Rollins has been, is now and forever will be one of the true giants and he takes a back seat to no one.
