Unfortunately there don't seem to be enough guys like Jim Dye in the brick and mortars so I pretty much depend on myself and you guys. Case in point the previously mentioned Danny Gatton. The Elektra stuff was easily available but the odds of getting the Big Mo stuff were'nt real good but this one of those cases where I was not going to be denied. I searched every nook and cranny of the worldwide web until I came upon a likely looking candidate in the Washington DC area. I dialed the number and sure enough they had every Gatton Big Mo title save for one. I broke out the card and in a short time I had all those Gatton titles and I was a pretty happy camper. The extra work was a lot less frustrating than having to endure a lot of "who is Danny Gatton?". Granted I could have gotten that response from the DC store but I played a hunch that since the store was in the basic area where Gatton lived and died that I might hit paydirt and I lucked out and I was also lucky that I talked to someone who had more musical knowledge than your average purple haired kid. Enough blathering about that what this is leading up to is I'm wondering do any of the brick and mortars make an active effort to look for someone with musical knowledge outside the Billboard hot 100 and do they make an effort to educate their hires on different musical styles or is that just out of the question?

Poll: Boxing
chris olivarez replied to connoisseur series500's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I was in a bar watching the 96 olympics when Muhammad Ali received another gold medal. It crushed me to see him in his detiorating condition.I had to leave the bar because I was starting to break down while I was watching that and no I wasn't three sheets to the wind. Unless boxing does something to further guard the health and safety of the fighters and to also rid itself of the politics and corruption which putrify boxing then I would reluctantly have to say ban it. I used to know the champion of every weight division and the top 10 contenders but I no longer care because as far as I'm concerned it's all bullshit. -
I heard somewhere that he was deceased.I'm pleased that what I heard was erroneous.

It's something you can debate from now until the cows come home and never reach a resolution.

Thanks, Chrris. No, they are not from a book--I have boxes full of photos. If this thread wasn't limited to women, I'd be able to post some nice early Louis photos. I y'all want, I'll be glad to continue--and stick to the rarely-if-ever seen. Here's a 1961 photo I took at Rudy Van Gelder's studio. An Elmer Snowden session that resulted in a Prestige album called "Uptown and Lowdown." (L to R: Elmer, Abe Bolar, Rudy Powell, and Floyd Casey). Cliff Jackson and trumpeter Ed Allen were also on the date. BTW As usual, my focus was off. Once again thank you Chris. All the photos men and women seem like they would make the centerpiece for a great book but I didn't know if you had already done that or if it was feasible or if you were interested in doing such a thing but I do appreciate the pictures.Keep them coming.

Thanks. The reason I was so curious was that earlier this year I purchased the Claus Ogerman box set(4 cds)and super from beginning to end but one of the songs that plays in my head a lot is the one by Joyce. It came off a session that featured Michael Brecker and Joe Farrell among others.I was dismayed to learn that Sony in it's infinite wisdom chose not to release the session because if the one cut that made it onto the Ogerman box was any indicator it was really good. I would be interested in any recommendations you might have for Joyce. Changing the subject do you have any good pics of Lou Ann Barton? Chris A. I would like to thank you for sharing your many pictures with the rest of us. Do you have a book with all those pictures in it . I think there are probably some great stories attached to those pictures. If you don't have you considered it.At any rate thank you.

Gordon was(is)hated because he is a "dirty" race car driver.Gordon has never been shy about putting his opponents in the wall if that person stood between him and the checkered flag. Gordon just doesn't play nice just ask his ex wife. However she has 15 million good reasons to think Jeff isn't such a scumbucket after all. On the other hand there was Dale Earnhardt-god bless him-who had the nickname of the intimidator and he didn't earn that nickname by playing nice but NASCAR fans who loved Earnhardt HATED Gordon. I guess it's just one of those oddities of race car driving.

As hypothetical arguments go this is a pretty silly one.Any race car driver who has had a prolonged career has taken the checkered flag somewhere. If they weren't dedicated to winning somewhere they wouldn't bother because only a fool would risk his or her life week in or week out and be ok with being an also ran. Where I differ with mny and conn 500 is trying to see this thing over a prolonged period of time.Joe Hotshot may win a pile of races and make his owner happy but in those races where he dnf's because he drove like a pig there are few championship points and there are other consequences especially if a driver involves other drivers in any given wreck.I believe that it is possible for a driver to win a drivers title without taking the checkered flag as long as that driver finishes consistently in the top 10.Matt Kenseth is the current Nascar points leader and he's taken the checkered flag once this year. Every driver wants to win but it's just as important to finish well on a regular basis because even if Joe Hotshot wins more races than anybody else somebody else might be enjoying the championship because Joe while he might take more chances might be taking too many stupid chances and as a result may watch far too many races from the garage.

A.A.A.D.D do you suffer from it?

Sorry dude no offense intended.Add this to the litany of things misdiagnosed over time. I came to the conclusion much later that at the time going to school was my job.Sometimes I found it enjoyable sometimes I didn't and I will admit that except in stretches I was mediocre or worse at doing this job. Perhaps our educational system should direct a certain amount of energy at helping kids understand that this is a job and they have a certain amount of responsibility to do it to the best of their abilities and how well they do it will determine if they are going to have a job that will be fulfilling or menial or on the other side of the coin god forbid having a job that is making liscense plates. School isn't all fun but not every aspect of a paying job is either but schools should do more the make sure it isn't total drudgery either and it will be a lot easier for kids to do their job if they're stimulated by something other in the "educational enviroment" than ritalin etc. Hope this makes some sense if not I apologize. -
