  1. Dr Lonnie and Fathead Newman taking on the music of Beck. That could be very interesting.
  2. Hill Street Blues, Gunsmoke,Mission Impossible,Twilight Zone,Mr ED(yeah I know it was dopey but the horse busted me up especially when I was dopey),Perry Mason(though I would have liked to see him lose at one case),Lost in Space and of course the Alfred Hitchcock Show as well as Rocky and Bullwinkle. These are just a few that come to mind.
  3. Someone from work saw this and thought it to be much better than the first one. I'm hoping to see this in the next couple of days.
  4. Something weird will probably come from this collabriation.
  5. The Tubes were pretty nutty guys.Loved em.
  6. I'm with Jazzbo on this one.
  7. Thanks Ron sorry if I got a little wordy there but I got on a roll and it was hard to stop.Have a beer for me ok.
  8. Ditto on that Africa Brass. The Bloomfield solos on the first Butterfield album are still strong nearly forty years later.I still remember being floored the first ime I heard "East-West" and I think all the dates with a horn section with the exception of the last one were super.Bloomfield and Butterfield were a dynamic combination and IMO not very many six stringers could top Bloomfield especially when he was on.
  9. Roosterties I will try to make this brief. The first trial was a drug trial. The attorney was asking jurors about their drug history and since I have one I was not too keen to answer that question.Somehow I managed to avoid the question and get excused. The second one was someone who was accused of child molesting. For awhile I was hoping to serve on this jury until I realized who the plaintiff was.The plaintiff was a girl who was a "groupie" of the radio station that I worked for and she claimed to have relations with the guys that I worked with. These relations(sexual)existed only in her mind. When I realized this I knew that serving on this jury was out of the question and when I passed this information along it led to a private session with the judge and the attorneys and this i did not enjoy. The third time I was summoned my employer informed me that I would be docked for every day I served and when I told that to the judge he exused but of course my employer was not their to receive the brunt of the judges displeasure. If called again I would serve because like Alexander I do believe it is a responsibility of a citizen but hopefully no more weird scenes for me.Hope that answers your questions if not I'll try again.
  10. Clear Channel and the other giant entities are and are not programming for the public as a whole. They are in the respect that they're targeting various age groups that their research indicates will spend money with potential advertisers.Their focus is on focus groups in these age groups. They will ask these people in the respective groups what it is they like and use this information to determine their playlists.Any song that comes up with a lot of negatives is sol.The tight playlists come from a general consensus that no one is listening to a station for too long a time, they are always button pushing and if a song is a hit people will ask to hear it for an indefinite period of time.In a market of any size a lot of people do push those buttons a lot and if you do you will hear a lot of sameness. These stations are fighting for fractions of rating points and in spite of any of their claims there is only so much risk taking that they are willing to do. Why is this you say? Simple they don't want to piss off listeners and have them switch to their competition so you will have a lot of radio stations playing songs that their research have indicated are "safe" and don't even try to suggest playing an unsafe song let alone one that is outside the boundaries of the format in question. Most radios stations are subject to ratings and if you have a bad book that is go down in the ratings you've got a problem .Two bad books and the odds are good that you're ass is grass assuming that your ass didn't get mowed after the first book. The big ad agencies determine their budget on your book and if the book isn't their neither is their budget. So essentially programmers are catering more to those advertisers then they are to the public as a whole. Now for Talk radio of course music programming is largely a non issue but even talk radio has a large amount of sameness in it's programming elements. IMO what I think this policy has created is a large amount of disenfranchised ex-listeners.It will take someone who thinks outside of the box,has a gamblers heart and is programming a station that has nothing to lose to come up with a programming idea i.e playing different kinds of music on the same station or whatever to challenge the entrenched programming idea(s) that exist today.Frankly I'm not holding my breath but I do think that sooner or later the empires like Clear Channel,Infinity,Emmis etc will suffer the same fate as all empires-they'll collapse.
  11. What happens if he's in the middle of a game and he gets a sudden urge for some oreos?
  12. I've been summoned three times and for reasons that are too complicated to explain here they all turned out to be extremely stressful experiences.I look forward to jury duty like I look forward to being constipated. If the time comes where I actually have to serve on the jury I'll do the best I can but it won't be easy because in my own life I do try not to judge other people.
  13. Kevin I agree with you and b3-er I agree with you too. We're bad to the bone.
  14. If the spirit moves me and it's affordable I will by BN and Mosaics in the future. As long as you believe that purchases from these two entities does not imply an endorsement of their heavy handed corporate approach to customer relations then you should be okay. The only right or wrong here is what is right or wrong for you.
  15. It can be frustrating but some artists are worth paying your money and taking your chances.
  16. Happy Birthday Joe G and as they say many happy reruns.
  17. I used to see Weather Report every time they came to Phoenix which was fairly frequently.Though I haven't listened to them much recently I still enjoy the group and I remember really enjoying "Black Market". I'll have to revisit "Tale Spinnin" too. I like the sound of the berimbau.
  18. After Gary Bartz released "I've Known Rivers" he did one called "Singerella" that really didn't do it for me at all and after that I dropped off the Bartz bandwagon but I understand he's done some good things in recent years so I may have to reexamine Gary somewhere down the road but probably not with this one.
  19. This is one I definitely want to revisit.
  20. Definitely alive and well. Thanks for the board b3-er.
