I saw him a few years ago at a show in Durango,Colorado. He was looking frail then but he still played great. One of the albums he recorded was "I'm In The Wrong Buisness" but AC was definitely in the right buisness. I'm going to miss him.

Vic has also recorded a great deal with Richie Cole.

Whenever I think of athletes taking steroids I think of Lyle Alzado who took steroids during his career and they contributed to his very painful death.

Happy belated birthday Jim R. -
I'm a single guy and after seeing some of the responses on this thread the appeal of staying that way is increasing.

no thread on The Passion yet???
chris olivarez replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Whenever the mention of this film comes up I think of "Birth Of A Nation" and "Triumph Of The Will". All these films are to put it mildly -controversial and insidious."Passion Of The Christ" whether intentionally or unintentionally has the potential to fuel existing hatreds toward a certain group just like those other films did. I find the films manipulation of the emotions of people who have seen it a possible cause of concern. This isn't entertainment. What this is-at least to me at this point and time is something that is disturbing. -

I just meandered into the BMG box sets sections and saw the Clifford Brown Blue Note-Pacific,Grant Green retrospective and Nina Simone sets all at nice prices. I'd appreciate you input as to the music itself and the overall sound quality of these sets.Thanks.

Rooster's gonna order from Dusty Groove soon...
chris olivarez replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Recommendations
Rooster before you go online go to the bank first with a semi truck and fill er up . Like JSngry said you can cull at the check out line but to put it mildly that will be a difficult process. Dusty Groove has an incredible selection and its tough to stop at 3 or 4. Good Luck. -
Well if there was ever a case of "to each their own" this is it. Over the years I'm finding other players that I prefer over Miles but Miles will always have a place in my record collection and my heart. All his life Miles followed his own musical vision and was his own man for better or worse and I respect him absolutely for it.

I picked the last answer just to be difficult but who really knows. Both the Yanks and the Bosox are incredibly impressive on paper but as we all know the games aren't played on paper. We'll just have to see.

That answers the question. Thanks Chris and B3-er.

The "Great Patriotic War" was a struggle for survival at its most primitive, basic and barbaric. The Soviet people had to fight this war or risk total destruction and they fought the war totally, ruthlessly and without pity against the German enemy as well as any Soviet citizen deemed weak and disloyal. The amazing thing about all this was how the Red Army overcame the German enemy as well as Stalin's purge of the general staff in the years prior to the war. At the beginning of Operation Barborossa, Germany had many easy victories because they were facing an ill prepared, poorly lead opponent but the Germans made mistakes which ultimately led to their undoing. The German armed forces were to put it mildly undermined by Hitlers day to day total control of operations and the planners of this war seriously miscalculated how much ground they would have to take and hold. The initial campaign took far longer than Hitler and the General staff anticipated and when winter came the Germans were poorly prepared and the brutual winter ravaged them as much as the Red Army did. All the while the Red Army was buying time and those who survived the opening onslaught and in spite of the terrible losses they suffered the Red Army had plenty of soldiers and they were gaining combat experience and capable leadership was emerging in that army. By 1942 the Germans didn't realize it but time was running out for them and they were going to face a Red Army that was powerful and increasingly well trained and professional and committed to the total destruction of Germany. -
I think I was overly influenced by 'The Time Tunnel' as an 11 year old! You too!!!

Interviewing Bill Summers and Irvin Mayfield
chris olivarez replied to Big Wheel's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Hey man some of the greatest radio has been the living on the edge type and of course some of the most catastrophic radio has been of this type as well. Maybe the extra prep would have helped you in this case but then again maybe not. At any rate it wasn't your fault that they were late. Though I'm really not critical of your approach-hell that was interesting how they went after one another you probably would have been better off taking a more conservative route because time was obviously your enemy and like it or not that classical audience is entitled to have their program start on time. Maybe what you should have done is give your listeners a basic primer on the band, play some of their tunes, give them a chance to promote the gig etc and then set up a future appointment with the band to do the kind of interview you wanted to. I wouldn't worry about it to much Bill and Irvin have done 4 cds together and probably have a pretty good idea where each other is coming from. I doubt that you have too many prudes and or conservative christians in your listening audience so I wouldn't worry too much about grief from the FCC and as for your boss just be upfront about how it went down and hopefully that person will have some input for you other than you're fired. It's a great radio story.Live and learn.
