Anybody see the Oscars??
Jim Alfredson replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I did not see the show but by your description it sounds like a hurdy-gurdy. What the freak is a hurdy-gurdy? -
"What a difference some grout makes..." Did the grout today. That was the most enjoyable part! We chose a nice "pewter" shade of grout. I am very proud of my floor and this gives me confidence to tackle the walls and then the kitchen floor and counter-top (in due time of course!). I think the house appreciates it too! Everything needs to be loved. Say hi to Hermie!

Does Tide Detergent Irritate Your Skin?
Jim Alfredson replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Maybe you're using too much? I find that they amount they reccommend on the backs of those things is far too much most of the time. I don't get my clothes that dirty. -
That's usually the modus operandi for anything you really want to win on Ebay, unless there's a Buy It Now option. It's called sniping, it sucks, but it's the nature of the beast. I usually bid within 1 minute of the auction closes. Since I have a broadband connection, I sometimes bid about 15 seconds before it ends. Of course, you always risk something happening and your bid not going through with that tactic.

JIM WILKE'S PLAYLIST
Jim Alfredson replied to randissimo's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Just got an email from Doug Decker. He heard us on an NPR station there in Hawaii!! Pretty cool! -
I'm not seeing anything wrong in that thread.
-
What thread?

Glad to see you back too, Michael.

Holy Crap! We missed Jim R’s Birthday!

Could it be this? -
Actually when I first got him, he was a stray so he was "Hermie the Wormie" because the poor fellow had worms pretty bad. Now he prefers his Latin name: Hermius Bermisius

I'm going to move this to the Reccomendations Forum, where it belongs. Thanks for the mini-review, KOB.

OH NO! He's been tiled in!!!! My fingers and hands were shot both Tuesday and yesterday. I had a blood blister on one finger and multiple cuts on others. It sucked playing the gig that night. But I am proud of the floor. I hope to grout it this Sunday.

Wow. I can't believe I originally posted this in July and here it is almost friggin' MARCH and I finally got the floor tiled. Next week I move on to the walls. Here's the bathroom before, with my new plywood subfloor. I had to tear the original floor out all the way to the crossbeams because the dumb-shits that owned the house before us let a toilet leak for God knows how long. And it's not like you wouldn't know the toilet is leaking. Number one, it rocked back and forth when you sat on it and number two whenever you flushed it you'd have a puddle in the basement. DUH! Anyway, that's our clawfoot tub. I'm getting the feet chrome plated and I painted the outside white. We also had the inside professionally re-glazed. It looks magnificent. That's Herman on the inside. We had just moved the tub into the bathroom and of course he had to see what it was. That was about two months ago, at least. But VOILA, our new floor (not yet grouted).... I wanted to get the 1" hexgonal mosaic tiles to go for that real "turn of the 20th century" look, since the house was built in 1909. But that stuff was almost $7 per sq. ft!!!! The 2" octagon/1"square stuff you see was only $2.49 per sq ft at the local Home Depot. Can't beat that. On the walls we originally wanted to do subway tile but again, it's expensive as all hell (why, I don't know. White tile should be cheap.) So we're going with white squares and we're trying to come up with an interesting pattern. WOO HOO! So anyway, that's what I was doing Tuesday while the board was down!

And? That was totally irrelevant to the conversation. I'm just trying to understand why it matters if your family sells your CDs for less than they're worth and somebody else is able to make a buck or two off it. I don't get it.
-
What does voting people off have anything to do with this? He left of his own accord.
-
Because, they will then go and sell it at a higher price. If they were to keep it for themselves, I cool with that. I know someone who did buy a large collection from an estate sale at a real low price, and he went and so most of it on ebay for a lot more. To which I reply, so what? Lots of people make a buck off of you when you die. Shit, my mom's funeral cost almost $13,000 and she had the simplest headstone you can buy. The world keeps turning after your long gone... CDs are just things anyway. You don't "own" the music so why are you so possessive with it?
-
I bought a couple Gene Ammons/Sonny Stitt CDs from them and they shipped very quickly. Maybe nobody wants those.
-
And hopefully the server won't crash from the load! That's a joke. It should be fine.

Well, he tends to be very reactionary. Just check out this thread from awhile back. My brother moved one of P.D.'s thread to it's rightful forum (just moved it... he didn't delete it) and P.D. freaked out and started creating a bunch of topics called "censorship!" He even posted about it on AAJ on this thread. I don't know why he flips out like he does. He needs to chill.
-
This reminds me of a thread that someone else started awhile ago about his last will and testament as regards to his CD collection. Personally, when I'm dead and gone I don't care if my family gets $2 per CD or $20. What difference does it make? I'm dead. Why are you freaked out that a fellow music lover might get a nice Mosaic box set at a bargain price from your family after you're gone ?
-
See this thread on AAJ for his little rant.

Anyone Doing Production w/ Roxio's Toast With Jam?
Jim Alfredson replied to RonF's topic in Audio Talk
I don't know ProTools very well, but wouldn't you export the file from ProTools as an AIFF first and then just burn in Roxio per the norm? That's how Cubase works... you can build up as many tracks as you want and once you get them mixed right you export the finished mix as a .wav file (pc-land, you know) or an mp3 and then load it into your favorite burning software. -
This is an interesting topic and one of the things you never hear the record industry speak of... whenever they talk about declining sales they blame file-sharing. But what about used CD sales? I personally look for all my CD purchases at the used store first, then eBay, and then I buy new. I only buy new off the bat if it's something I must have immediately or it's something I know won't be in the stores or I can't find it on eBay. It just saves money and it's a perfectly legal alternative to insanely high CD prices.

Did anyone ever hear the one about the poor kid who tried to commit suicide by dousing himself in gasoline in the shower and lighting a match? God, it was horrible. I was on my way somewhere and just sat in the car once I got to my destination for the entire 1/2 hour listening to that story. Amazing and very disturbing.
