  1. Not just SUVs, according to J. Kunstler: A case in point: the car industry. The Big Three, all functionally bankrupt, are now lined up for bail-outs from the treasury's bottomless checking account. Personally, I believe the age of Happy Motoring is over. Many Americans have already bought their last car -- they just don't know it yet. The current low-ish price of oil is a total fake-out, having to do much more with asset-dumping in the paper markets than the true resource supply-demand equation. Most of the world (the media for sure) has ignored preliminary leaks from the International Energy Agency's (IEA) forthcoming report which forecasts global oil depletion to be 9.1 percent in 2009. This is a staggering figure, very likely to offset whatever slack we see in global demand from the worldwide economic crisis. In fact, the global oil markets are poised for the most severe dislocations ever seen, meaning it's a toss-up what happens first in the USA: a major leg back up in oil prices, or shortages, hoarding, and rationing.
  2. I would have lit my guitar on fire, if only to keep warm.
  3. Chuck Berry? I wouldn't even put him in the top 100 guitarists!
  4. Totally agree with you re: "Sometimes". Great song, great production. Perfect guitar work from Adam Rogers (I think he produced that one, too. ) "As" can be heard/downloaded from myspace: http://www.myspace.com/mondaymichirumusic
  5. His set at the Detroit Jazzfest a year ago fit the pattern you're all describing. First tune out of the gate was absolutely SEARING. Later on, not so much.
  6. Looks like we're outlasting the Bush Administration! :rsmile:
  7. David's days are numbered, he being NPR's bitch and all.

  11. $2.20 would be nice! I'll be damned - it was $2.18 at the Admiral on the way into work. And yes, I was on my bike.

Although you might think he was trying to get his Gibson to take a drag.

Man that's a great cover. Not pretty, by any means, but it is real.
  16. Not hip to the Abercrombie. Is that available? Then there's Mclaughlin's guitar ensemble arrangements for that Bill Evans album (I've yet to hear that). Guitars sound great together. I might try my hand at it sometime, if a good idea occurs to me.
  17. Almost all of Lansing is mapped out for a 360 degree street view. Looks like the pics were taken last fall, based on the appearance of my house. I see much of Chicago and NY is also visible. How did they do it??
  18. I think I've heard that one. I'm waiting for the Raney/Marsh trainwreck story.
  19. Momentary diversion... Larry, in the Raney thread that David linked to, you posted this gem: I found that to be very interesting (and astute). Interesting because I've been studying out of a book called "Forward Motion", by pianist Hal Galper in which this point forms the main thesis of the entire book: that strong lines are created when chord tones (either given or superimposed) are syncronized with the strong beats of a measure (1 and 3), while color tones are lined up with the weak or "off" beats. Bach's music is perfectly clear in this regard, as is Raney's. I wish we had more time in Chicago to talk about stuff like this, but so it goes. Back on topic.
