Some good lines: "the exciting story of Vanessa Dale, and her courageous struggle for human dignity." "and to top it off, a whole can of zippy (?) grated cheese, a wonderful food." :rsmile: "probably having an ice-cream soda with that wild roomate of his!" "and that is so unlike Vanessa... and this awareness of danger may well mean new explosions." <clears throat> neuritis and neuralgia? Never heard of them.

Soaps haven't changed all that much. Just more sex (and less organ). I liked the Chef.

Long lines at every gas station I passed by. A major pain in the ass when it happened to be at an intersection with cars blocking a lane or two. Prices had yet to go upward for the most part, though one guy was changing the sign as people waited, and another up the road was marked at $4.99. I generally refuse to try to get gas under these conditions, even if I have to bite it later on.
-
Oh boy - I'm hearing reports that the price has nearly doubled from our recent lows in the $3.40 range.

How Walkable Is Your Neighborhood?

23 here. The good news is that I'm very close to the Riverwalk trail system. By bike, I can be in downtown Lansing or East Lansing in about 20 minutes. -
"Generally regarded as the Russian Wynton Marsalis, saxophonist Igor Butman's new release, Magic Land, features ten recordings of popular cartoon themes from his native country."

One co-worker plays the local classic rock station. I could really do without that (especially the morning show and those idiotic commercials), but at least she's on the other side of the room so I usually can't hear it clearly. I still can't get over the fact that every. single. day. we need to hear AC/DC and Boston multiple times. Every. Single. Fucking. Day.

I'll take it!

I suggest using those new found riches to purchase a set of 24" wheels for your automobile. Nothing spells success like new dubs. Those would look AWESOME on my '99 Subaru wagon, don't ya think? -
No biggie. -_-

Was that guy drunk? Say something sweet and clean and I'm not picking on you and I'm not being mean. -
I wouldn't say I'm in mourning. Rachel and I were just talking about him the day he died, without any knowledge of it. I mentioned his appearance a few years ago on Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and how funny it was. So yeah, bit of a drag when you find out that someone who gave you something to chuckle about dies suddenly of a collapsed lung. Okay?

What a drag! Story

Well, the damn stations don't sign off anymore. That changed everything. I mean, how can they expect us to shut the set off and risk the chance of missing something? Turns out that there is another downside to curtailing your time on front of the tube. Study:Watching Fewer Than Four Hours Of TV A Day Impairs Ability To Ridicule Pop Culture NEW YORK—A Columbia University study released Tuesday suggests that viewing fewer than four hours of television a day severely inhibits a person's ability to ridicule popular culture. "An hour or two of television per day simply does not provide enough information to effectively mock mediocre sitcoms, vapid celebrities, music videos, and talk-show hosts—an essential skill in modern society," said Dr. Madeleine Ben-Ami, a professor of cognitive science and chief author of the study. "The average person requires a minimum of four to six hours of television programming each day to be conversant on the subject of The Apprentice or able to impersonate Anna Nicole Smith."
-
I'm sure most would agree that excessive tv watching has unhealthy side-effects. Up to you to define "excessive".

It's been about 3 1/2 years since I cancelled cable. I watch The Daily Show online, and DVDs occasionally (though I've yet to replace my stolen player). I never feel that I'm missing out on much. Been cutting back a bit on internet usage lately, though that's rather difficult at work, since it's so accessible. Should say that during my 20's and early 30's I watched quite a bit of tv, and my late wife had it on more or less constantly. So basically I got my fill.

Pat Metheny/Jack DeJohnette/Larry Grenadier

Way to go CJ! I've always liked what DeJohnette's playing brings out in Pat's. Looking forward to the pics. -
This young woman has her own Wechter.

I'd like a picture of her holding my Wechter.

Report: Turkey Sandwiches An Excellent Source Of Turkey Sandwiches August 28, 2008 | Issue 44•35 August 5, 1998 CHICAGO—Turkey sandwiches, long suspected of being a rich source of turkey sandwiches, were found to contain a substantial amount of turkey sandwich in every bite, the Food and Drug Administration reported Monday. "While traces of turkey sandwich can be found in other foods, such as turkey, bread, mayonnaise, or turkey-and-ham sandwiches, only turkey sandwiches contain 100 percent turkey sandwich," the report read in part. "In addition, eating a turkey sandwich a day is proven to help reduce the risk of not eating turkey sandwiches. This is great news for the 12 million Americans who aren't currently getting enough turkey sandwich." The report noted that turkey sandwiches are no longer considered to be a good source of hot dogs. -
