  1. Time for Marty to Party!!!! (sorry if you've heard that many, many times before... ) All the very best
  2. Bumping this thread in a fit of excitement! After auditioning (the last few weeks) Roksan, Primare, Rega --- Mira and Brio --- Arcam and Musical Fidelity X-Ray systems I've finally been to a nearby Naim dealer and had a good listen to their equipment. Wow. I was very keen on the X-Ray, especially through the new Epos M12.2 speakers but with the Naim gear, even though it's the starter range, I was hooked. Roll on Thursday. They're coming to set it up. I've an Earmax Pro turning up soon too for my Grados! I know there are a few Naim fans here so I'm in good company.
  3. Miles Getz Evans Bobo Stenson Tony Williams
  4. Cheers lads.....! Just nipped down to York. Picked up a couple more Mehldau discs, the two most recent ones and an Earmax Pro off eBay I'm just settling down for a nice beer now with my wife (she's on the vodka though ---- time to get my swerve on ---- if I can manage it!) Have a good night all!
  5. Well done, fantastic film and great soundtrack. Off my wife I got the latest Stanko and Marilyn Crispell's Amaryliss with two Burton DVDs, Nightmare & Corpse Bride. Off my mother in-law I got Enrico Rava's Tati.
  6. I love this album. Possibly because it was the first disc I bought from his 'second' quintet so maybe that's stuck with me. Everything was so fresh to my ears then. I remember listening to the album back to back for weeks. On some long bike rides not long after, I would be able to 'sing' the solos back to myself.
  7. I just want to add my season's greeting. I know there are a few board members who've had a tough time recently so just to let you know, you're not alone. It's a great place to hang. Cheers everyone!
  8. Up here in the North east, we've had two in the last five years. On at least one other occasion it's been way beow zero. We only need a bit of a breeze off the North Sea at this time of year and it really comes in cold. Not this year though I 'm sure. Foggy and cold perhaps.
  9. What about his more 'visceral' recordings though Clem? Or his recent stuff with Marc Feldman? Curious because I really like the guy's playing.
  10. Isn't it all about personal enjoyment? Anyroad, here are mine: In no particular order, Keith Jarret My Song Tord Gustavsen The Ground Tomasz Stanko Litania " " " " Leosia Bobo Stenson Serenity Charles Lloyd The Water Is Wide John Taylor Rosslyn Marcin Wasilewski Trio Kenny Wheeler Deer Wan Peter Erskine Juni but it could all change tomorrow, as with any jazz/label/genre...that's the beauty of it!
  11. To fund my other expensive habits Seriously, my work situation is shockingly bad at the moment and I'm staring at the car everytime I go in the garage, unable to really use it because it's quite thirsty, and looking at £ signs. Shame but, it's only a car at the end of the day. Albeit an awesome sounding, scarily fast one!
  12. Hi Peter, I saw Pete King a few years back in the North East of England and as my old sax tutor said at the time, there's a lot of 'right' notes in there....meaning there's also a whole load of 'wrong' notes in there; needless to say, my sax teacher didn't like bebop. I find his playing infectious and fun, much like all the great bebop altoists. By the way, my car sold today You didn't want it did you?
  13. It's not too late to wish you a Happy Birthday is it Jim? All the very best!
  14. I can only echo what others have said here; I didn't know Steve but his posts were, as JoeG put it, humorous and positive. A good example to follow. Love to his family.
  15. go on, we'll let you take that on vinyl Providing you let us all play with your turntable
  16. Have a good 'un Ghost! Cheers

  18. The sequel is fantastic IMO. Slightly different chase scene though I do have Real Player so I'll browse the archives next week. Thanks!
  19. Thanks....I think I'll be a bit by then. Even though I stay up pretty late, that's a good hour or so past a late night for me. i'll bet it's a good show -- just have to watch the film soon instead
  20. What time would that be GMT, Ghost? Cheers.
  21. Denmark's answer to speeding
  22. The recording hasn't as much reverb as the Gustavsen (imagine being recorded in a normal studio rather than a chapel ) but it's still top notch.
