  1. pisses me off that Volume 7 has no "index". i mean WTF! it's a freekin' sourcebook. lazy sods ... and does the newest edition still have that crap about Sonny Clark being an "average player happy to have a bottle open on the piano and some business to be attended to in the back room" or some such...? i'm sure Rudy's mom kept wondering about all the bent spoons!
  2. vladimir =
  3. I always thought the whole St. Vitus Dance was the uncontrollable convulsions displayed by, say the Salem Witches after a nice lunch of Ergot laced sammiches. But I'm Leary of that.
  4. to much! on the other hand I have had such good luck with these:
  5. i thought Bond as well ... but hey "yer breath smells of kimchi, neener neener neener"!
  6. I had only a CDR of this one and just picked it up from da basstids. "what a swinging little record" have not compared it to the dupe but the sound is AOK with a bit of tape hiss on the softer passages, but hey this is '57. (point size on the liner notes makes them Tubby re-issues look like billboards)
  7. from the menu on the page above ... does farfisa Count?
  8. and they would have been great pals...
  9. From a couple of quick searches it sez this DVD of the 1959 set is to be released on October 23rd, 2006 ... Impro-Jazz Records Spain??? and CDU lists it as backordered from today? I bet this will hit the virtual shelves and da bastids soon.
  10. thumbs up on this one as well. I loaded a couple few cuts from e-music and subsequently ordered up and have been waiting for the real deal from da bastids for a week now. as flautilisciously swingin' as the cover... and ... it tipped me to Dusko Goykovich who I'd not been familiar w/ as a leader. that "Swinging Macedonia" must be a heck of an album.
  11. That Candirú fish down in the Amazon scares the pee outta me! ouch!
  12. this one's been getting some buzz. Byron gets a bit o funk goin'? sounds like it'll be a good band live but maybe some regular Jr. might have more octane. >clips<
  13. Thanks for the article. This worries me quite a bit and I think you can trace this to a whole lotta stuff going on. One conspiracy-esque theory is that the use of disposable diapers, that at one time contained some levels of phthalates - an additive that moderates the durometer and softness of plastics - might be a culprit as those chemicals supposedly mimic estrogens in the system when exposed to and absorbed by the body. Another is that increased fats in the diet provoke the body into early puberty simply because the system is fooled into a primal urge to reproduce since it thinks food is a plenty - just as women who go on zero fat diets often find that they stop normal repro cycles as the body senses that famine is in the air. And goodness knows them belly shirts in sixth grade don't help either.
  14. i thought it was one of these
  15. as for Wynton ... the illustrator here saves the day in many variant styles....
  16. this is a great one ... written in a wack time signature prose thing.... now see he has done another... great work!
  17. those things are daaaangerous!!!!
  18. When my brother and I were in high school we used to try to convince my father to buy a better stereo, and he'd reply, "Who needs hi-fi if you have lo-fi ears?" Words of wisdom. I tend to have equipment that makes the music sound good to me, and it's just bog-standard consumer electronics stuff. Anything more expensive would be wasted on me, despite the long years and untold suffering an artist devotes to getting a good sound. In college, some twentyfive years back, a roommate who worked at a hi-end stereo shop and called himself an audio buff, had a stereo that logged in at at least a grand and a half plus - chichi stuff for college. Open up his LP cabinet and there were the "Best of the Doobies" and the "Eagles Greatest Hits" ... all two of 'em! Never spend more for the goods than the goodies.
  19. anything that shoots sonics directly into the ear canal is not worth it, IMO.
  20. Speaking as someone born in Buffalo, I can tell you that we used to go to Cleveland when WE got depressed... as aric sez ... neener neener neener! we'll compromise at eeerie.
  21. That seller it seems is in Buffalo! WTF! Folks from Cleveland go there when they are depressed so they feel better about coming home.
  22. that Morello solo sequence is worth a look! (who decided that skinny ties were out of fashion?) and Zorn's solo at the end is a keeper!
