  1. You said it well. Back in them funk days with Cassandra Wilson and Geri Allen I ate it all up just because it was so "new". And seeing him live was nearly trance-like but maybe other factors played in that experience. I think his sinewy blowing might parallel the likes of John Lurie in a way that might grate at ya when the redundafunk steps in (but hey whadabout all them Grant Green "tensions") and granted Coleman shows more outright chops maybe and a freer association with new jazz than "fake" jazz but I do agree that I too can only take him now in bits. Maybe listening to Coleman might be more about giving in to "his" sound and grooving into what the rest of the band is all about. And maybe Jim can set us all straight, please!
  2. Thinking about Steve Coleman again after many moons and searched out this recent thread... I have not bought into any of his more recent pieces and the last was probably the "Tao Of Mad Phat". He lost me when those expensive French concerts began to appear in only limited editions. Went to the M-Base website and discovered that many of his tunes are there for free downlaods , a nice sampling for those in need. so ya'll check it out now : "Hey, Jim!"
  3. ... yet this will probably not keep him from being a big dick.
  4. My kids have discovered pop/urban radio so the song that has been going on and on is Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie". Thankfully I recently saw the video so that is now in the storage bank for endless loops.
  5. someone please explain this one. i really like how this word rolls off the tongue, er, palette, yet when googling all i find is this entry: Jsngry from 9/12/2003 possibly rooted from below as derivation but he was more of an up the middle guy than sidewinder-esque. did have cool shoes and could probably dance the heels off anybody. I also get an alternative of "taquitos" which with a few Negra Modelos would certainly taste great and maybe make 'The Sidewinder' even more enjoyable!
  6. some oen fuggin moved the lettres on my keyborda last nite!!!!
  7. not to take shipping pennies from the folks in Stamford but - Organissimo link for Selects Pre-Order.
  8. was it just me or the sound on my set up or was it the rumblings of George Adams doing backflips from down under that made me think that the "Star Spangled Banner" kicked HIS ass!?
  9. ooonf aauuuffff ooch... not a fan but recently sampled the brand new Zorn over on iTunes - 'MoonChild' (beautiful package as always tho and you can getcher self a nice MoonChild Tshirt to wear to the beach). w/ Mike Patton doing his Galas spooky boy antix and Joey Baron thumping away that would make anything worth a listen but dare i say useless stuff that reminds me of some of the worst (of one of the best bands in the world) Naked City. That noise has played and now sounds old as hell to my old as hellness. but a Painkiller fan might find something redeemable in there.
  10. I'd like to ban all hookers who have cold hands.
  11. this shit's gonna be crazy. Tiger best leave the big-dog home and have at it all w/ the two iron.
  12. right you are! Heyyy! clips that sound pretty damn good out of the gate but get a bit tired around the third turn. and the write up just about sez it all:
  13. nice Hulk. hard to look at Frazettas after the freshness of Jeffrey Jones. another monster talent that started his mark in the old National Lampoons. since it's a superhero thread...
  14. a one time idol of mine. here's another Wrightson masterpiece! just how the heck he did all that labware is beyond me.
  15. phewww ... thought fer certain I'd killed off the thread!
  16. so how was this one?
  17. Yipes ... My HOMETOWN!! For a college photography project I visited a small steel mill up in Akron a couple of times in the middle of the night - as that was the only time they were smelting and pouring. That place was something out of a Bosch painting and those guys in there are something else. Damn nasty way to go.
  18. If you're out for just a singular album this one has it all and then some with the abounding party going on.
  19. Just got this for the wife for her birthday. Tis full of (seamless mix tape) grooves yes and I would gather a perfect party disc with a nice Caipirinha haze ... a tad ear-bleedingly mastered from a treble heavy needle drop or what? His first trip down there was not quite up to this one on it's second disc's moderno-mix sides and thus did not hang on to it's green-card in my house for long. It did launch me into a wallet cleansing frenzy as JimR's "Hard Bossa" thread was released about the same time. http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...topic=10523&hl=
