  1. In the last two days, we've gotten 14 INCHES of rain here! 14 INCHES!! And yes, my basement leaks. Woke up this morning to >3 inches of water. It almost got my oil burner. It's so bad, my wife and I are considering moving... to another house in town with a dry basement. I gather this one's not on the short list. some shots from around the area look pretty devastating... and Rolf ... stock up on some soft shells cause the shellfish beds are all closing down. the Merrimack River up in flooded Haverhill is getting 35 million gallons of sewage a day! at least Peabody's BungHole Liquors is still in business!
  2. Cary, I don't know much of the guy other than I love his sound. That pic is truly a kick!! Vannucchi is mostly an organist but this shot is from his days with a group called "I Marc 4". Evidently legendary in 60s Italy. I have been pursuing info about him off and on with a recent obsession of swanky sixties Italian cinema music. His organ work can be heard on many a soundtrack from the likes of Piccioni and Umiliani and his is truly the signature sound that you hear on much in that genre. A recent hommage disc from Daniele Luppi (don't know of him either aside from being a modernist and found him via Vannucchi) brings together the group of I Marc 4 with Antonello.
  3. Antonello Vannucchi!

  5. if anyone knows anything about mine please let me know. i think it's some "nutty mads" / "weirdo" model kit that herr bovine flashed for me.
  6. it's freekin' rainin' and not gonna stop here in new england! folks in our little town are going to the high school which has been deemed an emergency shelter. people taking their sea kayaks to the streets. and the dog looks at ya like "wtf i'll hold my pee till august"
  7. easy way: ... but not the really the right way. if it is iTunes I would rip it from the source twice ... (maybe title it differently) then ... "command i" for track "info" choose "options" and play with the start and stop times in that window. if the silence is at the end your set with just one tweak ( i use this to shave down tracks when time is an issue on packing a disc or to get rid of a pop at the start of a vinyl ripped dub)) but if it is the middle somewhere then you need to do the voodoo on the two separate tracks and link them together when you burn. (caveat - ludite layman giving advice)
  8. hey! you found a better one! madakoowahsoweechy! yes, but I can't save it! but - i do have that chat-o-tine!!
  9. thanks for that! I had that bookmarked a couple years back and lost the link. For more Rube Goldberg magnificence ala Japan: madakoowahsoweechy! Still love them Ford Sportka Ads ...
  10. Just go an grab this one on 1201 Music ?? I had the mini lps and luckily offed them on eBay for many pennies because this cheaper version sounded better to me.
  11. never seen any and not gonna start ... but ... ho ho ho
  12. I remember trying my best to find that "Human Voice in the World of Islam" source after MLitBoG came out. Especially Dunya Yasin? It would have been a real coup if Byrne and Eno had done it really right and released a two disc set that encompassed sourcing for the album. A bit like Gabriel putting out the second 'Passion' recordings. That trickle down of musical inspirations makes the world go round.
  13. Youssou N'dour says that white people can't dance to Mbalax because it's rhythmically too sophisticated for them; like 4/4 and 6/8 simultaneously with an accent on the 7th beat of each alternate bar! He's wrong, but you really need to feel like it! MG I remember my wife being complimented on her moves by the guys from Bikutsi band Les Tetes Brulees after one of their shows ... made her decade! Most of the other "white wimmen", dressed in souvenir afro garb, moved as if the fly-machine had too much weight on it. I do wish I could dance like her.
  14. dat snausage sammich looks good!!! just an aside ... Last year my kid's got me a bottle of this for Father's Day. They thought the label was cool AND it had a free rubber skull! Had not uncorked it til the other night w/ some leftover beans and rice and grilled pork tenderloin. I put a couple dribbles on the plate and mixed it with the rice and then proceeded to eat like a bandit. After the meal I had a good cup and a half of yogurt followed by two glasses of milk - all to no avail. Did a bit of research and see that this is not even the hottest sauce that "Blair's" makes. He must free-base down habeneros to get this stuff so hot. Not a ridiculous hot sauce experience by any means but this kind of stuff better not get into the hands of terrorists!!
  15. In Marblehead, MA the Universalist Church has been holding a jaz festival there for a dozen summers i think. Saw Stan Strickland there a couple times. 2006 Schedule this year looks pretty darn good! give em a shout ...
  16. back on topic after listening to Jimmy Jazz. EAR PICK!!!
  17. these chimps either need to get a sense of better sense of humor or just drink more.
  18. Classic. Absolutely classic. and even better today w/ the pic!!!
  19. Couldn't have put it any better myself. I agree with you, Chuck, on all points. yes, but let's all agree that he was baited encouraging tenure's end.
  20. clicked over from the ARICian flu thread and see that this IS a political issue as the map here shows that the 1918 outbreak was a blue state thing at it's inception. And just look at this election graphic ... no doubt showing signs of avian influence! Time to hitch up an elephant and ride west!
  21. here's another > in what magazine did ARIC "appear" when he was in his teens?
  22. I came into Threadgill via Cassandra Wilson's "Days Aweigh" lp. Jumped to the Air set w/ Wilson and then onto the Novus material - "Bermuda Blues" was often grooved right into the table - one of my all time faves (bought that on disc years later btw from a board member's shop long before the board and remember him telling me how Threadgill didn't swing ) ! I usually flip on "Spotted Dick is Pudding" from 'Easily Slip...' around Easter (maybe tomorrow) cause it's such a great funereal dirge for that Bunny. His music always comes across to me as having a good old sense of humor about it. I do recall an excellent BFT ending with a bit "too much sugar" .
  23. "... er, um we'll wait for a booth"
