  1. dudes got a hip barber!
  2. see that this is now on iTunes as well as a few other American Clave` discs. fwiw search iTunes and load: "Rawalpindi Blues" 5:10 Don Pullen, Jack Bruce, Kip Hanrahan, Leo Nocentelli, Marvin Smitty Smith, Paul Haines & Robby Ameen 'Darn It!' $0.99 if not the best piano workout ever for less than a buck you can grab me by the wishbone.
  3. i heard he was going to puree it and suck it down with that freshly snipped umbilical straw. so now what if he has a boy? gotta deep fry that garneesh.
  4. there's cake in your ear...
  5. "Pint of Bitter", baby!
  6. Pheww... so that's not the same as the hotel?
  7. i'd go here just for the chocolate-black-out-cake and a couple cups of jo before perusing the records stores!
  8. i can't seem to find that "coffee spitting smiley"?
  9. ThunderBird digital player here. that lead off and a few others have a MMW groove (esp on the bottom) going on or what? sounds like she might be trying to capture that "Americana" demographic more and more with the balance of this one. i guess all that M-base experimentation and jazz is long gone now.
  10. good to see late back!! that cover is fantastic - looks like many could just strip in a head from the "show us yer face" thread and no one would think twice! don't have any of these Yazoos myself but have given a couple as gifts to folks with more folky interests. many of the Yazoo covers are highlighted in Crumb's collection of record cover art. a real coup would be a compilation of all that art with a box set from the label.
  11. news from the DMG release pages: I must have been in a phase back in the eighties and listened the hell out of all the Hanrahan releases. Conjure especially entertained me. Curious if anyone knows anything about this new (?) release here. See that the usual suspects are about along with Threadgill's new drummer weighing down what looks to be a rhythm hefty outing. I also spotted 'Darn It' re-issued over at the organissimo-linked CDUniverse for cheap. Not a very good set but a couple of killers in there with Rudd and Tchai and that killing-absotutely-priceless-play-it-loud-for-Don - "Rawalpindi Blues"! (on sale and maybe mispriced)
  12. "Keith Jarrett sings Bud Powell"
  13. that's a true fan!
  14. Nope, you are incorrect. The lyrics I posted are the exact lyrics Kurt sang live at the MTV Unplugged session. I listened to the CD right before I wrote them into the post and I just listened again and they're correct. Dig up the CD and listen yourself. Since that was an all acoustic session, I consider that to be the best easily obtained representation of Kurt's version of Black Girl. Kurt did sing other Black Girl lyrics variations ... just like everyone else in history. NO, .:. is the correct one here with vast knowledge of history. not a fan of ye w/ the buckshot uvula but it's an easy google to confirm the right answer, unless of course a cover song becomes the property of the messenger? sheesh!
  15. been nearly a year... Hoe Down video clip starting, er, no, has been, to be a cartoon of his future self. reminding me a bit of Adam Sandler, only more gruff and gentile. got some players on this new one tho.
  16. strrrrretch out that back before you do!!!!
  17. Truly sad indeed. The only time I saw him was a few years back in Boston and during the second half of the show he featured a very young, maybe high school, trumpeter that was in the audience. The young man's talent was deep and Jackie made him feel right at home. Let him take some flying solos. I'm sure it changed that boy's life and it was great to watch it happen.
  18. whacha get for racing against this guy!
  19. last time Mat Mahurin retouched a photo it came to this!
  20. oh yeah, sure he did. i blame the dog too! our's likes to dress for the howlidays.
  21. In reading the liners from "Parole e Musica" off of the web I see that in 1960 Helen recorded four songs in Italian with Armando Trovajoli. Released only as an extended 45 - RCA EPA 30-387. I wonder if these recordings exist anywhere?
  22. he's doin' that "Oh Baby!" thing!
