I bought one of these some years back - (BTW it has a nifty half speed control so that you can tape solos from recordings and slow them down to figure it out) I also use this recorder to tape some of my own musical endeavors....typically using the built-in microphone which yields so-so fidelity. The unit has a jack for a microphone and I am wondering if anyone knows whether I might get better quality recordings of myself if I get a mike?

If they make a biopic about Pops in the future
skeith replied to skeith's topic in Miscellaneous Music
me too Lon... that's exactly when the thought occurred to me that the resemblance is there Have they ever done a biopic about Louis Armstrong?....seems like it is a no-brainer given his talents and interesting life. -
I think they should get Tracy Morgan to play him....not sure of his acting chops but he reminds me of a younger Louis Armstrong.

I am a big fan of hers

Happy 60th Lon Wishing you all the best!!

Emmons was a master....so many contributions to so many records. THanks

Lon and CJ I sincerely respect your opinions and disagreement and yes I suppose that I have a lesser tolerance for what I perceive to be lower fidelity than perhaps either of you have. I don't expect everyone or even anyone to agree with me..... I am just expressing my thoughts on it.

Ok you guys do have a point about it being called a "bootleg" series ....on the other hand this is a release by a major label and there is no disclaimer such as major labels often use to say something like "sound quality is marginal here...but we felt this music was important to issue" nor is the price particularly reflective of bootleg quality music....I mean unlike a lot of music "bootleg" stuff...we are being asked to pay for this. Listening to the '73 concert right now and again...while the music is great, I can only regret that the sound is very distorted and harsh....at least to my ears....just seems a shame....is the point of this series that it issues material of inferior sound quality... not sure the other ones were all like this.

I was listening to the '66 and '67 sets last night and while the music is great. I have to confess to being somewhat disappointed in the sound quality....certainly many other official live Miles recordings are more high fidelity than this.

This 6 cd box set from 1993 (Rhino R271410) is in very good + condition. It has a small drill hole in the outer box spine and between pages 2 and 3 of the booklet there is a bit of extra space, but no pages are torn, marked or loose. Cds and inner boxes are in excellent shape. Unlike the 2015 set which uses cardboard slip covers, this 1993 box uses 3 double digipaks with trays and spindles to better protect the cds. US $45 to a US address.

TCM showed this film from the 1960s a couple of weeks ago. It is an experimental film directed by a black director, William Greaves. I was blown away by his use of the Miles Davis/Joe Zawinul music from the album "In a Silent Way" as a soundtrack for the film. It was credited at the end and therefore I guess authorized.... very cool. As for the film itself I enjoyed it...but YMMV.

That's just a bit harsh SS1....based on just a game or two? your fellow Tribe fan.

I recently picked up Romero Lubambo's album So Brazilian Essence - it's solo guitar with him playing a number of bossa nova classics plus some other stuff. I like it very much.

NYC E.Village explosion site close for former Fillmore East
skeith replied to skeith's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I suppose so.... but then those other places don't call themselves "the Greatest City in the World"...and it seems to happen more here than other places I have lived... and it seems most "accidents" involve some sort of illegal or criminal activity.... if I remember correctly the much bigger explosion in East Harlem last year involved the same kind of nonsense...8 people died I think. -

No If you follow the media, there are reports of an illegal gas hookup at the site... and of residents being warned not to tell ConEd if they smelled gas, etc., etc,....bottom line people died because of the shenanigans.... typical. As they say... only in NY
