  1. The last time I worked for this midtown Manhattan client, it was Superstorm Sandy. Well, I'm back...for the big (anticipated) blizzard.
  2. I've been fighting that thought. I've got about 60% of the LPs / 10". m-u-s-t- r-e-s-i-s-t t-e-m-p-t-a-t-i-o-n Somehow I resisted during the original availability. I wish they wouldn't tempt me again!
  3. Is is a pea? Okay, I know. I'm a goober.
  4. I know it's not responsive to your question, but buy an air popper (recommend Presto) and make it without oil. Yeah.
  5. I'm not a plant, but I am a vegan. Same thing, give or take 11 IQ points (in favor of the plant).
  6. Thanks for the NYTimes link. I was just reading on page C1. Much more meaningful depiction.
  7. Yeah, it was an event. Both better and more disappointing than this "just the facts" presentation would suggest. But that's par for the course when you've got a dozen or more pieces in a three-hour or so presentation. I wouldn't believe myself if I said I picked Pat Metheney as a high point and Lee Konitz's duo with Brad Mehldau as a low, but there you go. And clifford thornton, if you tried to go, I hope you made it in. I was 90 minutes in the wind chilled 9 degrees before entering as about the 1100th of 1500 capacity. I know a LOT of people were turned away - hundreds for sure. It was kind of a shame it was free. I talked to a bunch of people who were there BECAUSE it was free. 25% of them couldn't name a Charlie Haden recording.
  8. TuneIn. It was the only app I loaded on my Kindle that was even remotely jazz related. The Pulse app has some decent mainstream/pop music component possibilities. Until you root/unlock the device and gain access to real Android apps, there isn't much I've found.
  9. Charlie Haden Celebration at Town Hall tonight. "Among the many performers will be Geri Allen, Kenny Barron, Carla Bley, Jack DeJohnette, Denardo Coleman, Ravi Coltrane, Bill Frisell, Ethan Iverson, Josh Haden and the Haden Triplets, Ruth Cameron-Haden, Dr, Maurice Jackson, Lee Konitz, Pat Metheny, Josh Redman, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Brandee Younger, as well as Quartet West with Alan Broadbent, Ernie Watts, Rodney Green, with Scott Colley on bass, and Liberation Music Orchestra with Carla Bley, Tony Malaby, Chris Cheek, Loren Stillman, Michael Rodriguez, Seneca Black, Curtis Fowlkes, Vincent Chancey, Joe Daley, Steve Cardenas, Matt Wilson, with Steve Swallow on bass."
  10. Ann must be right behind my wife in the queue for sainthood...and Chuck not behind me in the ranking of lucky guys.
  11. Seems like we could have a whole bunch of David Stone Martin covers here.
  12. Lentils over grains, sometimes with a little tomato sauce. Mmmmmm.
  13. 25/30 I'm cutting myself a little slack: half that stuff hadn't happened by the time I got out of 8th grade...on the fourth attempt.
  14. As many of you know, I spend a lot of my life in Africa. Malaria, Diarrhea, AIDS/HIV...all pretty easily reduced. I hope.
  15. Wow, calendar. I though those were like watches, alarm clocks and cameras...you know, built into phones and otherwise extinct. (Just teasing.) Happy New Year, everyone!
  16. Kind of off topic, but I was startled to see picture of Wardell (and Dex) in the Journal.
  17. Happy Birthday 2014!
  18. I first heard him live in the late 70s. Several times since. Pretty much kept the clarinet for me until a new generation came along. And Buddy, sorry if I inadvertently stirred some bad memories of the Basie sextet.
  19. Have a great one!
  20. I wish I coild go see Slim Pickens*. But thanks. * Well, maybe not where he's playing now.
