  1. Personally, I don't "do" vocalists. But, if I had to name one, it'd be Billie. Or Dinah.
  2. Itzat time again? Well, have a grrrreat one!
  3. Oh Man, you got Shafted! Sorry, just an English/American colloqialism. I bet I've been to that shop in Stockholm. There's only one where I've seen Mosaics. In the end, if you like the music, the price is EXTRA good.
  4. I'd just dropped back into this thread to make sure Jessica had been mentioned. I grew up beneath her piano at the old Keystone Korner in San Francisco, where she was "house pianist" for quite some time.
  5. (I gotta stop talking bad about Lon. )
  6. Vi Redd ...and Mary Lou Williams and Dorothy Donegan! plus: http://www.jazzgrrls.com/cgi-bin/db.cgi?db...ords=1&nh=1 (1113 more)
  7. Agree. I'd actually drafted my post with Buxton alongside Michael Berman, but the last few times I've listened to Sonny Buxton, he (or I) seemed a bit "off". Didn't really "click". Perhaps next time. Apparently Ron Pelletier and John Rogers still broadcast, though I haven't heard them lately. Dick Conte too.

  9. I don't meant to be too harsh. She is knowledgeable. And sincere. Her choice of music simply doesn't appeal to me. And her voice and verbal mannerisms. If Michael Berman was the "heart and soul" of KCSM, I'd be more inclined to listen. I understand that they're still doing the All Out show. Frankly, I wasn't aware; it's not on at a time when I can listen. But I'll give 'em eleventeen points for that. It's still fine music.
  10. I just got a shipping notice for the (gift) order I submitted yesterday. My fingers are crossed for those waiting for backorders to clear.
  11. For me, KCSM is no better than a mixed bag. Maybe three decent deejays and at the other extreme, Alisa Clancy. Ugh. So, when I visit the Bay Area, the radio's off. Still I hate to see jazz (or 'jazz') radio die in the States.
  12. Thanks, Lon! Since I can't buy CDs (no place to put 'em), I came up with a win-win "scam". I bought them as a gift for a friend who I'll be visiting - hopefully more than once - in upcoming months, when work takes me through his town. I do love this era of Evans' development. Most of what I already own is on vinyl, which means I haven't heard (or seen) it in a decade or so.
  13. In the past eight weeks, six (of the seventy) magazines I subscribe to have ceased publishing...at least 'on paper'. Tough times. Obviously, I'm a magazine hound. (Four post office boxes.)
  14. Yeah, before starting the thread, I did a search on 'RDK'. Oops. And I don't see any option to delete. So one of the moderators will have to take this one out of its misery.
  15. Just discovered the OTHER birthday thread. Now how do I delete this?

  17. Immortal...so far.
  18. My parents weren't into music. But they were into childhood development, which meant that we all got music lessons. Since I was the oldest, I started first. So my first exposure to music (that I can recall) came at age 4: my own piano lessons!
  19. Make Happy! It's your birthday!
  20. No, but don't tell the IRS.
  21. I lost my Issaquah gig, but hope to catch you "live" again soon. But, for now, have a GREAT one!
  22. I do like WDNA and listen (over the airwaves) when I'm in Southern Florida (usually FLL).
