John Surman - Anglo-Sax. Picked this up today and a local shop that has appointment shopping.
Not sure why they gave this a different name and album cover for the US.
For $20 that’s a good haul. The power bank and wireless charger probably put you over $20 easy. I started using wireless chargers in hopes to avoiding replacing cables when manufacturers switch charging ports.
I’m familiar with Grex version, and from the video with Henry Kaiser they appear to be two different takes on the same inspiration so they shouldn’t have an issue coexisting. If I remember correctly Grex did a set in the valley of a love supreme also with Vinny Golia a couple years ago. I wanted to go but going to the valley is something I do much anymore.
Coming Nov. 13th on Cuneiform Records.
Vinny Golia - tenor, soprano, & baritone saxophones
Henry Kaiser - guitar
Wayne Peet - Hammond B3 & Yamaha YC-45D Organs
Mike Watt - bass
John Hanrahan - drums
This is a pretty interesting project and I'm looking forward to hearing it. Not surprising Henry says he was inspired by the Yo Miles! series with Wadada. I have my copy pre-ordered. There is a performance with some different personal and some background from Henry Kaiser on the project in the video below.
Pre-Order = Bandcamp and Amazon
Prince - Dance, Music, Sex, Romance 3LP bootleg 2LPs are commonly referred to as Small Club from 1988 and the 3rd LP is from Dortmund, Germany also 1988. I do enjoy finding Prince boots on vinyl.
Reading your statement carefully doesn’t change “But what I am more concerned about is what johnny-come-lately people/celebs like Jason Moran have to say”. You can change your narrative after being called out, but if you really did wonder if he had in-depth knowledge before researching anything about Jason’s work regarding the period, you didn’t need to include the above statement. Also Jason’s been on the scene for 20+ years. How is that Johnny-come-lately?
Typica of the live recordings of the era is my best description. I had not heard the previous cd release so I can’t compare it to that, but I would say a bit flat sounding dynamically and like they took a mono recording and made it stereo (I’m guessing they did but haven’t researched it) but it is immaculately pressed.
Agreed! Almost passed to wait for the cd which included two more songs but figured i would just check on Apple Music. I don’t have the Squirrel so I decided to splurge.
Nice. I was looking for a Nitty Gritty but decided on the Record Doctor since it was on Prime. Pretty much the same machine. Also toyed with the idea of ultrasonic cleaning set up but decided against it. I'm waiting for the upgraded KAB bearing/platter kit. Should be here this weekend.
I upgraded to the Record Doctor V. Well worth the investment. Improved upon the Studebaker cleaning substantially. I liked the Studebaker but it was just too inconvenient.
The thing I find fascinating in any article about race is the need to implant a minority, even when their contribution is irrelevant. thats just a tangent though. I find it interesting that there was a concern that this would be broadcast over loudspeaker at a farmers market and that is what gave pause. I like dust to digital and what they do but I always feel those digging into their compilations know what they're getting. Their audience is very niche, at least I always assumed that.
