  1. Picked up the RSD release today along with the Squirrel (haven't spun yet, probably will get to it tomorrow). Mighty fine indeed.
  2. Album of the year for me so far. Immaculately constructed for our times.
  3. I haven’t had anything to dump after cleaning a dozen sides between last night and this morning. You don’t use a lot of solution so it makes sense.
  4. Nice. I was looking for a Nitty Gritty but decided on the Record Doctor since it was on Prime. Pretty much the same machine. Also toyed with the idea of ultrasonic cleaning set up but decided against it. I'm waiting for the upgraded KAB bearing/platter kit. Should be here this weekend.
  5. I upgraded to the Record Doctor V. Well worth the investment. Improved upon the Studebaker cleaning substantially. I liked the Studebaker but it was just too inconvenient.
  6. Noah Preminger - Contemptment never a dull release from Mr. Preminger
  7. The thing I find fascinating in any article about race is the need to implant a minority, even when their contribution is irrelevant. thats just a tangent though. I find it interesting that there was a concern that this would be broadcast over loudspeaker at a farmers market and that is what gave pause. I like dust to digital and what they do but I always feel those digging into their compilations know what they're getting. Their audience is very niche, at least I always assumed that.
  8. I wouldn’t consider grey markets stuff for me to complete my collection personally.
  9. I’m pretty sure I have the complete discography of Bob Reynolds as a leader/co-leader. I have everything from Christian Scott as a leader. These are all relatively small compared to Mal. I would estimate I have 85% of Vinny Golia’s releases as a leader/co-leader. Anything Makoto Kawashima releases I buy. I’m working on Masabumi Kikuchi discography but it’s hard and expensive. I’m also working on getting the complete Asian Improv Records catalog slowly.
  10. Disc 3 which is basically B-Sides/edits. This set is something to behold especially if you are a Prince fan. (I still contend his best album, though I understand the disagreement with my contention, is Emancipation.) I followed this with my favorite Bowie album (which I know is controversial as well):
  11. Per Wikipedia: Television coverage of the 1965 baseball World Series included an advertisement by Chrysler that featured a version of Morgan's recording.[8] Morgan was watching the program, did not know that his composition was to be used, and found out the next day that its use had not been authorized.[8] After Morgan threatened to sue, Chrysler agreed not to show the advertisement again and settled the case.[8] [8] Perchard, Tom (2006) Lee Morgan: His Life, Music and Culture, Equinox, p. 159.
  12. I know what you mean. I probably wouldn’t have gotten it yet except I waited on the 1999 super deluxe and it went oop and doubled + in price. I enjoy Sign O The Times so much more I didn’t want to miss it.

    Vinny Golia

Yeah, I think Compositions to Facts is a natural progression. In the UK my guess is outside of some of the early Ninewinds vinyl releases, you would only have the higher chance to see Puff of Smoke or One, Three, Two. One, Three, Two was a German release I think and Puff of Smoke an Italian release (not positive about either but I remember them being hard to find because they weren't released in the US). He also had Birdology on Leo Records which I'm not super high on, but honestly haven't spun it much.

    Vinny Golia

I always felt like Vinny's large ensemble stuff is like an onion. With each listen your taking off another layer and its becoming more and more the music it was created to be. Facts of Their Own Lives, Pilgrimage to Obscurity, and Commemoration are probably where I would head next. The DVD's "Overview" and "20th Anniversary" are/were easy and cheap to find. I'm ashamed to admit I have Live at the Red Cat on DVD and haven't opened it yet. Will rectify soon. I used to see Vinny's cds cheap ($2 to $5) everywhere here (especially Amoeba and Poo Bah) so if anyone is looking for something I'm happy to keep my eyes peeled for you when/if I venture back out to record stores. This also made me think, though it would never happen, a Mosaic with Vinny's large enesemble stuff would be awesome.
  15. After my first set was scratched I gave Amazon a try. One disc can with minor scuffing but it played fine. Just a treasure trove of prime Prince. I've never been a huge bootleg collector, and what boots I do have are shows, this is awesome. It is very expensive but I feel worth the price.
  16. I have a Japanese release with the full saw.
  17. I bought the set at a local record shop...had to return it. Disc 5,6 and 7 were scratched to hell. Only set they had and they weren’t sure when they might get more. I’m trying amazon now.
  18. They talked to Mark Canha in the A’s game and I found it fascinating. He explained what he was thinking through his awesome catch and the changes he made while playing. Enlightening stuff to me and strange that someone is so opposed to it. Especially given baseball high pace..
  19. I’ve been trying to decide if I want to pull the trigger on it, mainly for the book
  20. Started the morning with Chad Taylor/Brian Settles and Neil Podgurski - The Daily Biological. Its fantastic and easily a favorite release of this year. followed with: Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah - Axiom music is excellent but the sound quality has left me a little cold.
  21. Trying to decide if I want to spring for the Super Deluxe Edition that recently came out. The OG vinyl has always sounded so good to me, I want to justify the purchase but can't convince myself. The CD version I have is adequate but sounds slammed to me, unlike the vinyl which makes sense given the "newness" of cds at the time. Also trying to decide if I want to get Emancipation on vinyl given my affection for that album (strangely I know but probably my favorite Prince album) but never being happy with the cds sound.
  22. you can pre-order the whole angel city jazzfest this year for $20. Really innovative idea. I was expecting it to be cancelled. I’m excited for about half of the line up but for such a little fee it’s a no brainer. Thought others might be interested as well. Line up info available here: https://angelcityjazz.com/angel-city-jazz-fest/

    Vinny Golia

This is cool because you can see how vinny composes spontaneously.
