Wholeheartedly agree with this statement. A real big band in person is a transformative experience that isn’t replicated no matter how well recorded.

I’m actually pretty disappointed with the sound quality, after all the hype I was expecting better. I haven’t dug into the book though which appears to be fairly in-depth. Can’t say I’m upset with my purchase, it’s still new to me Sonny, but had I shelled out for the vinyl like I almost did, it would be a different story.

I got it today along with my new CD player. Spinning now. Since I literally have only listened to one other album on the new player I'm not positive but the sound of Sonny's horn on the studio tracks is very wet probably due to the reverb in the room I would guess. I can't imagine they added it when recording in 67. There are some odd phase shifting on the second track as well during the bass solo. Anyone else notice any of this or should I return to my old transport.

My grandfather recovered from COVID in Sept. though it has taken a toll on him. He contracted it at his 98th birthday party.

I saw Noah when he performed at the Angel City Jazz fest in 2018 I think. He didn’t have any merch for sale. Only other one I’m searching for is the Kason Palmer. I almost pulled the trigger on the New Orleans series but decided not to.

I got the Blue Parrot LP cheap sealed on vinyl.com (I wasn’t sure how legit such a generic named site would be but it delivered, and it was the most well packaged LP I’ve ever received). Try them. It was $10-$12 if I recall correctly.

Mine arrived yesterday, a day earlier than usps predicted.

I checked my Tone Poets and there is audible distortion but I wouldn't consider it unlistenable, This was my 5th time listening to the LP and my first time focusing on distortion and I only noticed it a few times throughout and for me the most noticeable was "star eyes" but not overly distracting. I'm no audiophile though and am used to some noise in my records.

The “Awful Waffle” is nothing like Denny’s. Not even close. It’s an experience all unto its self. No place converges all walks of life at 2am like a Waffle House.

I listened to an interview with Jeff gold on KCRW today. Basically he said he is a music memorabilia dealer and someone wanted to sell him their collection. When he started seeing the pictures he surmised they were one of a kind and the world needed to see them and thought a book was a good way to get them out there. They’re apparently pictures the clubs would take of patrons, develop them during the show and then try sell them to you as you left. Sounded like he found the pics and became fascinated with them and started researching. Good for him, I’m more intrigued by this book now.
