  1. Thanks Lon, I'll give it a try but I'm not very computer literate!
  2. Lon, Absolutely, Art is in the eye of the beholder (I just made that up )! I have befriended an artist named Gene Dietch, who drew the covers and inside cartoons for a jazz magazine in the 40's/50's called "The Record Collector". He is now a resident of Prague, in the Czech Republic. He drew an original cartoon for me, using the character he drew in the 40's, called "The Cat". It shows the "Cat" photographing a jazz musician, face to face. If I can figure how to post it, I would use it for my avitar (can someone do this for me???) Gene also drew many of the famous cartoons we watched as kids (Tom Terrific, Popeye and many others), while working for a state owned animation studio in Prague; facinating guy! Mark
  3. I agree with the above! Happy New Year!
  4. The Jazz Showcase in Chicago and Jazz at the Bistro in St. Louis have very good sound, in my opinion! Happy New Year (a little early)!
  5. I'm usually just like that to people that make statements like your post above . (just kidding, have a great day!
  6. Patricia, Some times I am a sarcastic jerk , I could resolve to be less so. I think I will also resolve to get my jazz photographs published a little more often (maybe a book perhaps???).
  7. .....aahhhhh, New Years Resolutions... My method is to make several resolutions each year but I've found that if they are not realistic, I find myself making the same ones over and over again. One of mine last year was to lose weight, I went from 225 to 205 and want to get to 195, which I will. I'm about 6'2 so the 225 pounds don't look so bad but I feel uncomfortable some times. I went the low carb route, cutting out bread, pasta and potatoes for a while (I love them all). Once again, I wanted it to be realistic, so I cut back on them instead of telling myself I couldn't eat them at all. It seems to working for me; moderation is the KEY! I also resolve to exersize and run more but I had surgery yesterday, so that will be on hold for a couple months (If this message is all over the place, it's because I'm still medicated . I am also working on a jazz photograph web site that I hope to have up and running by the end of March!!! I could never make the resolution to quit buying CD's as this is my only vice and it has not proven to be harmful to my health at this point. I don't smoke and rarely drink (good wine being the exception). HAPPY NEW YEARS TO EACH OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES Mark
  8. Vibes, The Herbie Hancock show in Indiana is at Purdue University...I'll be there, let me know if you make this one! Mark
  9. I got the Amy and Pearson Selects as well as the Mulligan set. I also got $50.00 in Mosaic certificates; not sure what I'll get with those! One other nice thing I received is an original mint 45 of Clarlie Parker w/ Strings on Clef Records . Merry Christmas to all! Mark
  10. Jamf, I've bought 4 OOP Mosaics, (Ellington, Chaloff, Monk, Mingus) and about 50 single discs. I need to slow down but I can't help myself . Mark
  11. Thanks for all of your tips/opinions! I opted for the Duke Ellington as I found it used/mint for $75.00 in Chicago this weekend. I played disc one and loved it. I can't wait to pick up some of the others, but after taking out a second mortgage on my house to pick us several OOP Mosaics (at very good prices) this past week, I'm on hold for a while. Mark
  12. I thought I would post a partial list of the remaining used Mosaics at the Jazz Record Mart in Chicago. Again, these were brought in by the family of a man who had recently passed away. For those of you who asked me to pick them up for you, I shipped them today. I'll probably being back in the windy city on 1/11 if any of you are interested in me doing the same. There are several others available, but I didn't list anything that is still in print (except JJJ). Happy Holidays to All!!! Mark Mark
  13. Happy Holidays to all!!!I went to see Benny Golson Quartet (Larry Gray on Bass, Dana Hall on Drums and Mike Kucour on Piano) last night at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago. Benny sounded great as usual, while playing many of his greatest compositions as well as a few new tunes. Towards the the end of the set, vocalist Kurt Elling walked in the club and Benny invited him up on stage to sing a few songs. They did "Embraceable You" and a "scat" version of what sounded to me like "Salt Peanuts". I was never a big fan of Kurts singing, but Benny and the crowd were loving it. Now that I look back on it, it was pretty cool. I was at the show early and Benny came in much earlier than normal and was playing a little piano while the club was empty. I made a few photographs of him playing which was great and talk to him for about 15 minutes when he was finished; he told a very sad story of what he was doing when he heard that Clifford Brown had died (which led to him composing "I Remember Clifford"). I'll post a few of my photographs from the show in the next couple days. If you didn't see some of my photographs from the Dave Holland show, click on the Dave Holland link on this same thread. Mark

  17. Happy holidays to all!! I'm looking for a few thoughts on the following Mosaics sets. I've never been a huge fan of Big Band but I'm thinking of getting the following sets as it's starting to grow on me (not literally) . *Kenton Presents *Duke Ellington reprise Studio Recordings. How about the Gerald Wilson? Thanks, Mark

  19. This is very sad indeed, not very well know to the masses but a wonderful player non the less.
  20. Conn, I was just kidding, I didn't know you were in the business. I would agree with you that many people don't take this seriously until it's too late. We're all invincible when we're young(er). Mark
