  1. I recall The Plot Against Harry was rediscovered and re-released (or finally released at all) in 1989 or '90. I really enjoyed it and used to drag friends to see it.
  2. Best of luck!
  3. Actually, I'm surprised they stock any CD's at all. That probably won't last.
  4. June Christy---This Time of Year
  5. Terrible news. Very sorry to learn of this.
  6. Fascinating. Reminds me of the revival of Klaatu in The Day the Earth Stood Still.
  7. This one is still around: http://www.amazon.com/Art-Courtly-Love-Mun...3168&sr=1-5 and holds up very well, though more recent performances of some of these works seem more specific (more relaxed or intense, as the case may be -- Munrow and friends might have been sight-reading at times). I was greatly enlightened by and enjoyed this set way back when -- for one thing, it led me to draw a (fairly shrewd IMO) comparison between the music of Roscoe Mitchell (specifically "L-R-G") and that of such 14 Century avant gardists as Grimace and Solage. I still wonder what Roscoe would have made of Solage's "Fumeux fume," which is the most Roscoe-like piece of non-Roscoe music I know. Courtly Love---Is that when you use a mattress Don't be silly---it's when you make love in a courtyard.
  8. Love June Christy. I should check this one out.
  9. Whenever there have been mistakes like this in the past Mosaic has been known to make it right as quickly as possible. Remember the mess-up with disc 1 of the Grachan Moncur Select?
  10. I always thought House should be into jazz for some reason.
  11. The decision NOT to give me a $2000 gift certificate just on general principals.
  12. Sviatoslav Richter---The Sofia Recital 1958
  13. He's right. You are NOT going to influence a 13-year old musically, and the harder you try the more they will rebel. Just give it up and hope the kid gets into better music on their own someday.
  14. How tacky.
  15. I've also long had the Rhino compilation, and should probably look into getting the Ace.
  16. "Whatever you do, don't mention the war..."
  17. I'd like to think of myself as Dick Van Dyke or, failing that, The Prisoner (#6 that is.) ("I'm not a number, I'm a human being!") I suspect that others would see me more as Bob Newhart with kids.
  18. I was a fan of that film too. Until now, I thought I was the only one in America who was. It had some popularity in this area (Hudson Valley - NY state) because it was filmed here, but probably was ignored everywhere else. A shame, because it's a very good film. The film was pretty true to the novel, so you probably would like the novel too. For that reason I've been meaning to read the novel all these years. One of the things that made the film so appealing to me was how the Hudson Valley where it was shot reminded me so strongly of my native New England---the trees, winter snow, architecture, the occassional decaying mill town... Gotta love it.
  19. I always felt that I came to them too late in life to really get into their brand of humor.
  20. Schumann---Piano Quintet Op. 44 Mozart---last two string quintets, K. 593 and 614; 40th symphony Bartok---Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta; the String Quartets Reich---Music for 18 Musicians Beethoven---3rd and 7th symphonies Even cheating like mad, five choices ain't much. Addendum: Haydn---String Quartets, all. Conlon Nancarrow---Studies for Player Piano
  21. Come to think of it, I don't recall ever being to a party that I found enjoyable.
  22. As far as I'm concerned personally, it's too late to worry about it now, so I don't, generally speaking. But since it's been brought up, I kinda hope the above isn't true.
  23. I do. In fact, if it weren't for moldy, calcified tomes I wouldn't like jazz at all.
