  1. I thought the "Prophets of Science Fiction" episode on Philip K. Dick was damn lame from start to finish. Hardly surprising, as the whole series is, in a word, stupid. But I found the PKD episode particularly objectionable, perhaps because I happen to know more about him than some of the other writers.
  2. I'm still all about the land line, very old-fashioned that way, but haven't used the phone book in a long time. If I need a number I either use information (on my landline telephone) or look it up online. Or ask a friend or relative: "Hey, do you know so-and-so's phone #?"
  3. Good to get HP's info on MG.
  4. I'm afraid the news on McLean is not good. He was five-foot-five. Height still matters in the U.S. It shouldn't but it does. (Feel free to take this in an Onion spirit.)
  5. Apparently she couldn't afford a sitter.
  6. "Sound" in that sense: No. Never. Good God, no! In fact, I like some low-fi with my old jazz, blues, and R&B. Too "cleaned up" can take away something. OTOH, if I learn that something has been "re-channeled for stereo" or otherwise extraneously distorted then, yeah, I'd rather not listen to that shit.
  7. If so, it's one of the few current trends I can wholeheartedly applaud.
  8. I think people born beyond a certain time, 1975 say, simply never watched "60 Minutes." (I used to have a similar reaction when I bumped into people who claim to never have seen a black & white movie. Old movies used to be shown on free-TV all the time, but at a certain point, in the 80's I think, that just stopped.)
  9. The old media laws that didn't allow any one person or corporation to own more than a handful of stations should never have been repealed, that's what it comes down to.
  10. I tend to agree; very fun movie. The ending is easy to ignore. Yes. Well-written, well-acted. Won't set the world on fire, maybe, but worth a view for sure.
  11. Wow, a preface, a forward, AND an introduction. What, no prologue?
  12. Happy Birthday, Chris!
  13. I doubt anyone can like Gilligan's Island as much as kids between the ages of 4 and 10. Too much beyond 10 and...forget it.
  14. At least a couple of generations grew up watching repeats of I Love Lucy, perhaps the most iconic of all 50's sitcoms. None of Lucille Ball's later shows were quite as good.
  15. You are right, which is a good reason to get the DVD box set (either regular or Blu-Ray)---it has all the episodes in the correct order, including the three or four that weren't broadcast in its initial run. If they had renewed the show for a second season I think it may have found it's audience. Also: Re-watched the season finale of Breaking Bad on AMC last night.
  16. I'd be more than willing to take it off your hands.
  17. As a friend in Boston pointed out years ago, the obvious one missing from the gerund series was "Fuckin' With the Miles Davis Quintet."
  18. That sounds like, ah, quite a life.
  19. That WAS a good show! Regrettably, I didn't get into it on it's first run, but only after seeing the movie version, "Serenity." Better late than never, I guess.
  20. I know. Most of the movies I've looked up have been "DVD only." Not bad for a dying medium.
  21. Oh, don't worry. I'm sure there's going to be fallout from killing Gus. And then Hank will keep getting closer to discovering the truth about Walter.
  22. The awfulness of some of the Bond films he was in certainly wasn't his fault, but due more to script/director/producer problems. And yeah, few people would argue that he stayed in the role a few years longer than he probably should have.
  23. I've never quite understood why so many people dump on Roger Moore. Sure he was no Connery, but who is? I thought he made for a very good Bond.
  24. I enjoyed this a lot. As for Breaking Bad---what's the deal with Gus? Is he telepathic or just plain ultra-intelligent?
  25. Such sad news. RIP
