  1. I can't wait for the new Fillmore Street Yoshi's to open.
  2. Ah, good times...

    Concertos

Any Mozart piano concertos by Serkin/Szell are worth it.

    Concertos

What can I say---this list rules.
  5. I've got to see this.
  6. Yeah, RIGHT.
  7. I called Mosaic yesterday. We have to wait another two weeks untill this set will be available. Just as well, I suppose.
  8. Sounds intriguing, but this is the kind of book I'd actually like to look through before buying.
  9. ... and "Jazzical Moods", and "Jazz West Coast" and the Daver books. I like Taschen, though. I've enjoyed their "Design of the 20th Century" and "1000 Chairs". ...And "1000 Clowns."
  10. I liked the first couple of seasons, but felt it was downhill from there.
  11. Biography? I was quite a fan as an adolescent. Yes, a bio. I just happened to glance at it in a library and was fascinated because all I knew about him was that he was the guy who wrote The Chocolate War and I Am the Cheese. Turns out he wrote a lot more than that, and he was from Leominster, MA! What a surprise!
  12. I forgot to mention Invader Zim! I suppose it's a show that's guilty of being very hyper, but that's part of the joke. I wish that show had lasted longer, I always loved it. Then there's Daria. For older kids perhaps, but one of the best shows of all time.
  13. By the way...we saw Fountains of Wayne live the other night. They were great!
  14. Whadda you recommend by Cake?
  15. "Robert Cormier: Daring To Disturb the Universe"
  16. My younger son loved Thomas the Tank Engine and eventually got a lot of the wooden tracks and trains and used to play with them ALL the time. Both my kids were deeply into Spongebob as soon as the show started. I like it, but never liked how they seem to show the same episodes over and over (you might say this is true of most kids shows, but especially Spongebob.) I used to rent VHS tapes of the new Batman animated series; I don't know who loved it more, the kids or me. That was a damn good show! It's on DVD now...one of these days I should buy it. I used to watch Arthur with my older boy when he was 3 and 4...good times, good times.
  17. I'll also always remember him as "The Peeper"---but wow, what a career he had.
  18. I used to think the same thing, but after seeing past AI winners like Taylor Hicks, Fantasia and Reuben, it seems America may not be caught up in looks as much as we think. I will say Melinda's hair, makeup and wardrobe have really been top notch throughout. Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight were no beauty queens and I think Melinda might be a true legend in decades to come. Personally, I think Melinda's really cute.
  19. This is a companion to the "What music did you buy today" thread. Once I've bought something, I find I usually like it fine, and I'm already thinking about what I'm going to buy next. Like a lion stalking prey, the next meal is always more interesting than yesterday's. So what's in your sights? Is it something you've been wanting a long time but you're not sure about the issue, are you undecided between two or more albums, or did something you'd decided to buy suddenly disappear (that's happened to me more times than I can count.) Reasons, misgivings, pros, cons, (and Conns!)...let it all out. Share it all; it will make you feel better. BTW, right now I'm thinking about getting some more Joe Henderson. I've been digging him more lately. But I'm also thinking I should buy Andrew Hill's "Dance With Death."
  20. This thread reminds me of the old Letterman bit "brush with greatness."
  21. John McWhorter seems to think very highly of it.
  22. If it's good, it's worth it. But I don't know how good it is.
