  1. A very Happy Birthday to you!
  2. "You Comb Her Hair" has to be one of the creepiest country songs of all time. George Jones sang the hell out of it though. RIP Hank.
  3. Actually, in a weird way I kinda liked that.
  4. I had no idea that Bourdain could write.
  5. Same here. I just didn't think of him dying; guess I assumed he was good for another 10 or 20 years. RIP Harvey.
  6. Yeah, I really can't stomach late-period Heinlein at all. He really kind of went off the rails. I'd agree with your opinion that most of the later books were garbage when they came out. Even Moon Is A Harsh Mistress is half-and-half for me, as the story is interlarded with a lot of lecturing from the author, of the know-it-all, hectoring, obnoxious-libertarian-asshole mode already familiar from Starship Troopers. Still, I have a sentimental attachment to many of his juveniles, and even managed to get my older son into some of them.
  7. Belated Happy Birthday! Glad it was fun.
  8. Happy Birthday, Randy!
  9. Dang, I've got to get that Millhauser book! Although I'm a little scared; it looks...dangerous.
  10. It's not that so much as the fact that I clearly remember Ringo turning 40 (and that seemed kind of old to me at the time.) BTW, am I the only one who thinks he's a little underrated as a rock drummer?
  11. Shortly after that last post I did finally buy the CD soundtrack to North By Northwest.
  12. Hank and Ringo were born very close to each other. Close in the calender, I mean. I'm just sayin'.
  13. Ah, if only he could get down to 30.
  14. How would he react, I wonder, if he saw a meteor, or a comet? Explode?
  15. May your happiness be in stereo, and the highest of fi! All the best!
  16. "Double rainbow ALL THE WAY!!!" I want what he's having. On second thought, no thanks.
  17. God, yes, I love that scene! And while on one level it's so very moving, on another he's talking about the cynical manipulation of our most powerful and intimate human emotions in order to sell a gadget. I've been watching that 90's show, Homicide, again lately. Lots of great moments from that series. One in particular: When a middle-aged detective, Crosetti, turns up drowned in the bay, his young partner Lewis is determined that what looks like a suicide will be ruled a homicide (though everyone but Lewis is pretty sure it's suicide.) Well finally the M.E. report comes in, saying that Crosetti had massive amounts of tranquilizers, pain-killers, and whatnot in his blood at the time of death. So Lewis breaks down and cries! I don't know why, but this really shocked me the first time I saw it.
  18. It's like the thing is made out of jello with a flexible skin.
  19. I think part of what he's saying is that if you're uninterested, you can't really be disinterested. And vice versa. So you literally can't be both. Jesus, Larry, are you some kind of WRITER or something?
  20. I hate to say this, but despite considering myself a big Steven Wright fan I never heard this album. I'm guessing it wasn't a huge seller. Kalo, ever heard (or owned) this one?
  21. Good news! Out in only two weeks---I'm looking forward to it.
  22. Best Wishes!
  23. Ah, yes; I remember it well. I used to borrow this and other Cosby records from the local library on a pretty regular basis when I was growing up.
  24. I didn't realize you had the same birthday (June 22nd) as me! Hope it was a happy one!
