  1. I'm a fan of many of the singers already mentioned, but let's not forget-- Wreckless Eric
  2. Just watched The Colbert Report.
  3. That "We Have All the Time In the World" thing for On Her Majesty's Secret Service? God, I HOPE that wasn't his last studio recording. That would be sad.
  4. Nice. Thanks for that, Jim. You've sure got to give Cavett kudos for having Joe Venutti on. But right at the end of his intro did he call him "Phil"?? Sounded like it to me.
  5. Up here in Northern Cal, the few people who still have front lawns just have to sit back and let the rain water them.
  6. Wow, they say it's very long. Who'd have thunk it?
  7. Another nice thing about this is you don't have to worry too much about it being turned into a movie.
  8. It just so happens that I just noticed the liner notes on a vinyl compilation of 40's jazz singers were done by Chris Albertson. And they were quite good.
  9. I found that Anita O'Day rendition of "Skylark"---it was with the Gene Krupa orchestra, recorded for OKeh, November 25th, 1941. I've got it on a Columbia vinyl compilation, "1940's Jazz--The Singers." Liner notes by one Chris Albertson.
  10. Does anyone have any opinion on the Helen Forrest Jasmine 4-disc set?
  11. I heard an early Elvis Costello song, "Pump It Up," at my bank today. My BANK. Truly, the end times are upon us.

    Ian Carr RIP

Sorry to hear of this. RIP
  13. I love that Stranded book. An old, old favorite.
  14. I saw these both back in Boston, when a local art theater was showing loads of jazz documentaries (they showed the Artie Shaw film Time Is All You've Got too.) Those were the days....
  15. I'm surprised it lasted this long.
  16. Yeah, that stood out for me too. Is he completely nuts, or what?
  17. I sent him a copy of Fountains of Wayne's third album but he never said anything.
  18. Also nice to hear there are some Eddie Sauter fans out there. I always thought he was one of the best arrangers Goodman ever had.
  19. Very nice indeed. Thanks for that. (I've got to dig up the Anita O'Day version.)
  20. I really like the way Anita O'Day sang the song back in the 40's. Just beautiful.
  21. Sounds like a Spiderman villain.
  22. I could have sworn it closed last year. Well, I won't shed any tears. Tower was a MUCH better store. Better prices, better selection...everything. Virgin was pretty useless.
  23. Next quarter: Lester Young!
  24. Quantum of what, now?
