That "We Have All the Time In the World" thing for On Her Majesty's Secret Service? God, I HOPE that wasn't his last studio recording. That would be sad.
Nice. Thanks for that, Jim.
You've sure got to give Cavett kudos for having Joe Venutti on. But right at the end of his intro did he call him "Phil"?? Sounded like it to me.
It just so happens that I just noticed the liner notes on a vinyl compilation of 40's jazz singers were done by Chris Albertson. And they were quite good.
I found that Anita O'Day rendition of "Skylark"---it was with the Gene Krupa orchestra, recorded for OKeh, November 25th, 1941. I've got it on a Columbia vinyl compilation, "1940's Jazz--The Singers." Liner notes by one Chris Albertson.
I saw these both back in Boston, when a local art theater was showing loads of jazz documentaries (they showed the Artie Shaw film Time Is All You've Got too.) Those were the days....
I could have sworn it closed last year.
Well, I won't shed any tears. Tower was a MUCH better store. Better prices, better selection...everything. Virgin was pretty useless.
