  1. Happy Birthday Alex!
  2. 7/4.... it has nothing to do with the election. I am just continually offended by the way you routinely dismiss certain parts of this country as "red" States, including my State of Ohio. I find it highly offensive. Am I wrong to feel that way? I mean, think a little for once in your life...
  3. Probably accurate comments. Still, there was something about the guy which suggested he was very narrowminded. You get the feeling that you wouldn't want to be on the other side of the fence with this man. At the same time, he exuded a great deal of generosity and leadership. He was a mixed bag for sure.
  4. Actually, I leave most of your dumb posts unanswered. But this crap about "red" States must end (at least outside the Politcal forum.) As for persecuting you, I apologize If I've given you that notion. I shall leave you alone henceforth...
  5. Take note 7/4, who is always spreading his brand of crap about "red" states. Keep your garbage to the political forum, please. I chose to post there only infrequently because I tire of this type of nonsense. When I want to get into a fight, I know where to go. Try to keep it clean elsewhere...
  6. And that's exactly the attitude that I find repulsive. "Sack sin"? We are in the time of the stoopid people. They vote for stoopid people and steal entire elections. They agree with dumb shit other stoopid people say, don't think twice about it and when you call them on this thoughtless behavior, they see nothing wrong with their mindlessness. Where's the next tailgate party? Yeah team and praise the lord! Stooopid post of the day....
  7. I hold mixed feelings for Reggie White. He was obviously a great football player. As a human being, he apparently touched the lives of many. He had strong leadership qualities. He was generally a good role model. On the other hand, he came across as highly bigoted and narrowminded. I wouldn't appreciate it if I were on a football team and this defensive end comes up to me and asks me how I'm doing spiritually... none of your damned business, my fine sir!! I neither like nor dislike him. He had positive as well as negative qualities. On balance, I think I'm glad he walked the earth. No need for the offensive shit spouted by 7/4. And Clem--well, Clem is Clem. I do understand Christiern's points.
  8. Happy Birthday Mark!
  9. Damn, I missed today's game! I'm just pissed that both X-mas and New Year's Day fall on a Saturday this season. I get no time off...
  10. Sorry Greg, but it's been so many years since I was in grad school that I've totally forgotten what the GRE was like. Not exactly sure it is something that can be studied for, though there might be books on it.
  11. One thing's for sure: whereas the Patriots were a step above all other teams last year, this is no longer the case. They're still one of the best teams, but the league has caught up with them. They now have to kick and scratch for victories like everyone else. Brady blew the game. But who can complain? He's won so many games with last-minute heroics. Reality was bound to catch up. I see the Steelers losing one of their last two games, (Baltimore, at Buffalo) but I can't see them losing both. I would say that the Steelers have locked up homefield for sure. I still like the Patriot's chances against the Steelers no matter where they play should they meet in the playoffs. On the other hand, I think Indy can take New England if they meet in the playoffs. New England's secondary is a mess without their two starting corners. Ty Law should be returning soon, but Poole's out on IR. They've beaten Peyton Manning too many times. He'll torch them next match up. Miami played real tough. They were about to lose the game before Brady messed up, but that's the way it goes. You still have to put yourself in position to win anyway; and the Dolphins did that. I think the Patriots have been getting away with a gerry-rigged secondary. Miami was smart enough to try to exploit it. I think other teams will try to do the same. I still think that NE has a decent chance to repeat, but it depends on whether they run into the Colts on the way; and they also have to kick and scratch like all the other teams do. In the end, the loss probably helps them to get refocused; but they'll have their hands full at the Jets next week. We could see two straight losses. If that happens, I don't see them repeating this year. Boy, Denver looks really sorry. What the heck happened to them?
  12. good pick, ss1. Nice to see you get one...
  13. Appreciate your help, Jeffro, but I got this too late. Moreover, I was staying in Monroeville, which isn't quite Pittsburgh. I didn't get to venture into the city.
  14. Sorry, sorry...I know, a week in Pittsburgh can be tough! Heard enough Steeler-talk to last a year....
  15. Been away for a week and just came on this thread. Happy Birthday John!
  16. Scary story about the guy who blew himself up. One would assume that there were warning signs, such as a severe headache or something.
  17. Great news Wheel! Hope you will still be able to post. I just started a new job myself and I've been training in Pittsburgh all week. Just got back.
  18. SS1 always goes against the Steelers, but they're not ready to lose just yet. They'll win next week again against the Giants, but should lose one game against either Baltimore or Buffalo. I'm inclined to believe it will be the latter game, which will be the final game of the season, and Buffalo might need the win in order to make the playoffs. How about that Cincy offense? Good O-line too. Carson Palmer is the real deal, and so in Rudi Johnson and Chad Johnson. New England had to work a bit in the fourth quarter to stop a big comeback.
  19. Sad to say I haven't gotten around to reading those yet, though I picked up a cool old Modern Library Giant of Poe's stories not long ago (my Modern Library fetish is a subject for another thread altogether). An omission I seriously need to rectify! Modern Library editions are terrific! Have to be careful with the translations of Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky however. Maude is fine, but Constance Garnett is awful. Ghost, you'll love Poe. Great writer and much better than Conan Doyle. I've ready everything by Poe, though it has been an awfully long time since I did read him.
  20. I was a big fan of Holmes as a youth. Probably wouldn't be a bad time to read some of the books again. Doyle wrote what is known as ratiocinative stories and novels, likely based on Poe's "Rue Morgue" story involving Mr. Dupin. (Don't know if my spelling is accurate here.)
  21. Nice to meet you, Allen. We've got serious knowledge and total nonsense in equal measure here on the board. Wouldn't want to have it any other way...
  22. I'll be spending next week in Pittsburgh. Does anyone know of any good cd stores in the city for jazz? Thanks
