Grant Green will always be a special guitaritst for me. He was one of the first Blue Note musicians that elicited a kind of fanatical response from me. I was listening to a Yusef Latif anthology (on Rhino) and was listening to "Blues for Maude" (I think that was the title.) ...and I said to myself, "who the Hell is that guitarist!? Man, that's some story he's telling on that solo." I was hooked on Green forever thereafter. The fire has waned somewhat, but his music will always be special for me. He played with some great people and created a large and diverse body of oevres during those active five years with BN. Wes is great too. He probably was the greater genius. I love them both, of course. I think that Green accomplished more as far as his recorded career is concerned. Wes was a greater artist, and likely more influential; but his recordings didn't have the scope of Green's. Wes at his best is impossible to surpass as in his recordings with Jimmy Smith, and "Full House" and "Live at the Half Note" with Wynton Kelly trio. Damn that stuff can't be beat! I'd rather not have to choose between the two. Love them both!

And that is probably one of my least favorite McDuff records. McDuff was one of the best. He did a lot of great Prestige/Fantasy stuff that has been reissued lately.

I love "Hi-Voltage" and will definitely upgrade it when the RVG comes out. It appears as if BN will reissue just about everything. It bothers me a bit that Conns are getting remastered when they were sold at high prices originally; but then I suppose I wouldn't buy the remasterings if I didn't think it worth it on balance. So I guess I do appreciate the fact that they are being remastered.

Well count me in as another who hasn't quite fully appreciated Baby Face Willette. I do have the two Conns, but sold "Mo Rock" and "Behind the 8 Ball" after I had listened to them, liked them, then got bored with them. His music hasn't quite hit me yet. I think the cds sound okay but they're not outstanding. I'll put them on again today.

In truth, I cannot remember what I bought from Ken. I missed most of his sales, but I did pick up perhaps 5-10 from him through here and the BNBB. He will be missed.

I'm a huge B-3 fan and own 7 of the 10. In fact, I used to own all 10 but sold three of them. I didn't care for "Bashin'" and I found McDuff's "Live" to be poorly recorded. Got tons of McDuff however, and he's a big favorite. To the Top Ten, I wish to add a few more: Patton, "Got a Good thing Goin" Patton, "That Certain Feeling" Lonnie Smith, "Move Your Hand" Don Patterson, "Live at the Left Bank" "Further Adventures of Jimmy and Wes" Don Patterson, "Boppin and Burning" Charles Earland, "Intensity" A whole bunch of Richard Groove Holmes (hard to pick a single title) Jimmy Smith, "Live at Small's Paradise" Jimmy Smith, "Root Down" Jimmy Smith, "The Master" Jack McDuff, "Double barreled soul" etc...

Sorry to hear of Ken's passing. I bought my share of cds from him over the years.
