The Cedar Walton's been getting some spin on KCSM; sounds pretty good. But then, that's a given, isn't it?

This Thom Crooze debacle...
Jazzmoose replied to trane_fanatic's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Amen! As one of the millions of Americans who has benefited from these "bogus drugs" and this "discredited science", I'm proud of her for making a public stand on this jackasses comments. And no, I never thought I'd say I was proud of Brooke Shields... -
Organissimo is in the studio...

Hey, somebody give us an update, even if nothin's happening! Throw us some scraps here! -
While I agree with the rest of you, I agree with this as well. So many "jazz compositions" seem to be a good idea for the start of a song and nothing more. I guess if the improvisation is the point, that's cool, but it doesn't make for memorable songs. The song form of "A" and nothing else, with "A" just being a cool riff doesn't exactly reach the levels of Cole Porter...

Well.........can't say I'm thinking about fishing when I see that photo, but I'll agree with Wolff's comments about the overproduction. B-O-R-I-N-G. Save it for people like Britney who need it...

Rod posts his one liner about contraception, and then porcy tells us about a Klimax amp? *Ahem* Sorry; I'm feeling particularly goofy today, I guess...

Tom Harrell is my absolute favorite straight ahead trumpeter! I think my favorite is probably Upswing (Chesky), although I haven't heard a bad disc by him. Also have to give a second mention to the big band disc, Times Mirror. I just picked up Sail Away in the J&R sale, so I still have fresh Harrell to try; gotta wait until the mood is right!

The most bizarre place you bought Jazz in

Damn you! That's where they went!! -
Damn!!! I messed up the search function again; sorry guys... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, darn it; it was in 'recommendations'. What can I say? I only searched artists.

Oh. my. god. That is just moronic. Why tune into a radio station for that? You can do it yourself, and just add the tunes you want. Hey, here's an innovative idea for radio: get someone to actually play records, not off of a playlist, but whatever the hell they feel like playing, logically following one tune with another, building a coherent stream, but without the worry of following any particular musical genre! It'll work! I know it will!! This idea could save radio as we know it!! (I have another idea about a recording format that defeats digital recording, preventing piracy by using a large vinyl disc to contain-get this-ANALOG recordings of the music, but I don't want to dump too many ideas on you guys at once here...)

Sounds like Nuclear Assembly Hall should be on my short list. I've got the DKV Trio Live in Wels & Chicago disc; I'd put the Chicago disc in my "like" pile, and the Wels disc in my jaw-droppingly-amazing pile! Thanks to a certain nameless poster here, I've been getting well acquainted with the Okkadisc catalog as fast as I can; I'll have to check out the other labels you mention, Jason.

Okay, but seriously... I've been getting into Vandermark's music more and more, and just feel that he ought to have a 'corner' or whatever here. I know that there are plenty who dislike his music, but I'm also sure I'm not the only one who likes it. I found Vandermark through my exploration of Peter Brotzmann, naturally, but over the last year, I've been more and more attracted to his other work as well, particularly--- Spaceways, Inc. Love both Version Soul and Thirteen Cosmic Standards. I'd put Radiale a bit lower, but still nice. The Vandermark 5 To be exact, the new 12 disc Alchemia set. I'm new to the group, but this set is just incredible. This is my favorite release of the year so far. Yes, even over that...sorry! Vandermark seems to be at an odd place in jazz; he's too 'out' to have any hope of being confused with mainstream, but (at least to my ears) he's too mainstream to have any hope of appealing to the 'more out is best' crowd either. An odd territory (hmmm....there's another...oh, never mind) to stake out, but for some reason it works for me. Now, the ultimate goal of the post... Whaddya like? As Vandermark's music is beginning to show signs of becoming my next obsession, what would you recommend for exploration? What do you dislike? What do you consider the obvious "must haves" for this artist? And, like him or not, what do you think of his work? (Seriously; believe me, if criticism of artists I liked hurt that much, I'd have disappeared looooong ago! ) Thanks...

Yeah, that's it; thanks! I've never seen either movie, but have read the story...

Crazy Horse & Aretha Franklin/King Curtis
Jazzmoose replied to Alfred's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That is one scary thread title, Alfred! I mean..."Crazy Horse & Aretha Franklin"?? The mind boggles... -
Jeez, that was bitter; don't mind me...

Sounds like this school has more problems in the music area than just the radio station. Then again, maybe all schools are like that. There's something distinctly odd about people who teach and/or work at colleges. In high school, the students were the annoying, cliquish little hitlers; in college it's the teachers and administrators...

I would think that concealing such info would be incredibly foolish. I don't know about the rest of you, but the fact that a board member is involved in a recording makes me more likely to give it a try, not less likely. And a poster who has the trust of the rest of the board would certainly be foolish to abuse that trust. While such an act might not affect my impression of the music, it would certainly affect my impression of the person involved...

new Mosaic set for..... drum roll please...
Jazzmoose replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I wasn't going to respond, but since you asked, no, I'm not going to pick this one up. Let's just say that Buddy Rich isn't my cup of tea. ← This one won't be on my short list either. Hey, I can't buy everything, even if the wife thinks I'm trying... -
I've never heard of this; is this an adaptation of the short story? (Uh...does it involve killing for sport? would be the give away question I guess...)
