  1. I picked Funk in France up on Friday and listened to the Paris sessions and some of the Antibes. My preference (from what I’ve heard so far) is the Paris session. It’s closer to the GG from a few years earlier. Don Lamond does sound a bit peculiar as noted by CJ and others. On the Antibes session, the organ sounds different to me, maybe because it’s an M-3 and not a B-3 (not that I’m a musician) or maybe it’s just how the session was recorded and sounds. I have to listen some more.
  2. Disc 1 (just received).
  3. That would be a major blow for the Angels. My son is an Angels fan and we watch the games together.
  4. I come here to escape the constant drumbeat of news about that fool. Let's not pollute this place with his name or photos.
  5. RIP. A very interesting life. Thanks for the link.
  6. 90? I feel freakin’ old.
  7. If Tanaka hurt his hamstrings running from 3B, he’s clearly not in shape. The fans are calling in today complaining about it, which is predictable and you really can’t blame them for being upset. However, teams play a lot of inter league games these days and pitchers need to be in shape.
  8. The length doesn’t matter. The players the Warriors have are just better. I picked the Warriors to win in 5 but a sweep is not a surprise. Even if the Cavs had won in game 1, the Warriors would still have won.
  9. Jazz Wax had an interesting article earlier this week about Dallas Jazz, including Ann Richards. See Dallas Jazz Circa 1960
  10. He's not a number one but a pretty darn good two or three. This season he's posted uncharacteristic numbers though and with his injury, who knows. One thing, however. Shutting him down for the playoffs probably saved his career, unlike the way the Mets dealt with Harvey.
  11. Received the Shearing. Very well packaged. Thank you.
  12. I finished All for Nothing and started this book A very odd book. Written during the Ceausescu regime, it is absurdist literature but a little too out there for me. I read one review saying that it’s best digested in small pieces. Not for me. I have picked this one up by the great crime writer Dorothy Hughes
  13. In our area we don’t have many record shops. I thought one that had, art one point, multiple locations had gone out of business. However, I discovered today it’s still in business and went over there today and bought Grant Green Funk in France Monk’s Les Liasons Dangereuse Coltrane’s Heavyweight Champion I could have probably found them cheaper on line but it’s also important to try to support local record stores, even if it cost me a few extra $.
  14. In today’s New Yorker: Travels with Anthony Bourdain
  15. I received an email from Pledge Music indicating you can buy a reel to reel version for $500.
  16. A real shock. Some big losses in the last few days due to suicide.
  17. Thanks for the link. Enjoyed listening to it.
  18. I think that's a good path to follow. I'm going to wait and see.
  19. Although not 110 wins, in 1993, the Braves won 104 and the Giants won 103 when they were both in the Western Division of the NL. Due to the playoff format then in use, the Giants missed the playoffs. I also saw that in the 1980 ED of the AL, the Yankees had 103 wins and the Orioles 100.
  20. Love the album photo.
  21. LeBron James: The Strange Thrill Of a One Man Show
  22. There is no present need for them to make a trade. They can make a trade all the way up to August 30; players acquired after July 31 just have to go through waivers: that's how Verlander was acquired.
