  1. Enjoyed what I've seen so far. It's motivated me to purchase volume 1 of the John Richardson biography.
  2. Chapter 11, not 7, so that is good.
  3. Ditto. Thanks David.
  4. I think going to a contender can make a difference too. Although he’s supposed to be a professional, sometimes it’s hard to be motivated when you’re on a terrible team that is rebuilding.
  5. Speaking of the Beatles, about a month ago I was listening to one of their albums in stereo (one of the ones that was remastered when the mono box came out) and it sounded jarring. I then listened to another album in mono and that sounded right (at least to me).
  6. Thanks. I thought it was quite interesting: an executive going out into the field.
  7. The Astros are a better team this year than last, having added Verlander and Gerrit Cole. Here’s an interesting article on the Astros that was in yesterday’s paper: A Numbers Guy Leaves the Front Office to Coach Prodpects. Here’s what he Learned.
  8. There were originally two separate threads and they were merged.
  9. That’s selling this set a bit short. The Nick Brignola sessions, for example, are outstanding.
  10. Not to be argumentative but the point I was trying to make was that what makes Mosaics special are the book and the box (not to mention the music) and you would lose that with downloads (if downloads were an option).
  11. So much part of the Mosaic mystique is the box and the book that I'm not sure they would issue sets as downloads only (if they could do so).
  12. I received an email from the LOC, with the following link, Taking a Look at Jazz
  13. A nice all around recording. Outstanding Budd Johnson.

I assume you’re referring to this one.

I suppose you have a valid point although the dancing is the part that I like the least but I do agree it has some potential. After all, jazz was dance-able and supposed to be so in its early history. I re-watched that gym one and can see that her moves may be trying to put jazz in dance steps, if that makes any sense. She's trying different ways of expression so I have to give her credit for that.
  16. Bought the Scott on a whim and the Gentle Jug, both to hear Patty Bown and Gene Ammons.

    Okay, let's. Post away.
  18. The Mosaic Jazz Gazzette brought up this article today: Phil Schaap: the Walking History Book of Jazz David Remnick of the New Yorker crafted a wonderful 2008 portrait of Phil Schaap as the obcessive institution of New York morning radio. His vivid descriptions of Phil in high gear make his show come alive. -Michael Cuscuna
  19. I picked this up based on The Enthusiast column in The NY Times a couple of weeks ago. I can't say I'm completely loving it yet but it is funny in spots.

My initial reaction when I saw your last few postings was that “he’s obsessed.” I just watched some of the videos you posted and maybe it’s your way of saying, see, this is what’s going on in some quarters. However, I could be totally wrong and am probably am. My other reaction is, what, is she a joke or just engaging in some bad self promotion. That spot from the gym is just about her and her moves, in my opinion, and her “assets” and that video of Some of My Favorite Things??? Get real. What a joke. A travesty. Can you imagine Coleman Hawkins or ____ (pick your own) doing some of the moves she’s doing?
  21. According to Steve Wallace’s article, she played on Dinah’s Dinah Washington Sings Fats Waller, from 1957.
  22. Thanks for the link Kevin. I was looking for it under the original album name.
  23. Ted, I was very impressed with his writing and knowledge, so much so that I signed up for his blog.
