  1. I listen to Sirius XM or WKCR when I'm driving. Otherwise, normally not. I find out about new music here. I'm not a big avant garde fan so if that comes on, I will probably turn it off. More partial to bebop, hardbop and soul jazz. On Sirius XM, the hosts are ok. On WKCR, Phil Schaap can wear on you but normally I won't change the dial because of the host. I tune in for the music.
  2. Looks like new ones are still in the high 300s to 400. Hopefully prices will settle down next year.
  3. I have the above Mosaic for sale. Only partially listened to once. Everything is in mint condition. $105 (which includes shipping). Will ship overseas but shipping will be higher. Please contact me if interested. PayPal preferred. Thanks for looking.
  4. I paid with PayPal so they took my money a long time ago!
  5. Your family thanks you! ***** Just returned from Southern California where the weather was great, son in tow. He just finished a transitional living program out there. Hopefully, he's ready to make a fresh start. Visiting out there (and I've been there at least a dozen times) is always a relaxing trip. If only I could afford to live out there.
  6. It became Windsor during WW I. In the same time Battenberg became Mountbatten. I had thought that was the case but wasn't completely sure. Obviously, it wouldn't do have a German name during WW I. The relationship that Wilhelm had with his grandmother but especially his Uncle, King Edward VII, was a complicated one and in the case of his Uncle not a very good one and Wilhelm gets a good share of the blame for that. Who knows what Wilhelm's temperament would have been like had he not been born with a withered arm.
  7. Would have liked to hang out with Dizzy, but definitely not Miles.
  8. As the article points out, the present line is descended from Hanover, Germany. They are the Saxe-Coburgs, not exactly a British name. Because of its Germanic name, it was changed to Windsor at some point. The mother of Queen Victoria, also named Queen Victoria, was a Saxe-Coburg and when her sister-in-law Princess Charlotte of Wales died, resulting in a succession crisis in the English monarchy, Victoria married the Duke of Kent (son of George III), third in line to the throne and their child became the Queen of England; the other two sons having no heirs. Queen Victoria also married a Saxe-Coburg, Prince Albert, so they are German through and through. Not necessarily relevant to the point but let's not forget that Wilhelm II was Victoria's grandson and the Tsar was related to the Queen as well, both of whose monarchies were washed away by WW I.
  9. I think this is a great choice, as noted. The sessions I've listened to are superb, IMHO of course
  10. Dick Allen should be in. What a great player he was.
  11. I've always loved the Prestige years, particularly A Long Tall Drink. It just seems that his BN years have drawn more attention, maybe because it was at an earlier point of his career.
  12. Very cool Mike. Is there a link to make a contribution?
  13. Considering the debt the government has, I seriously doubt that. Moreover, that's not our financial model, not that various state and local governments don't give out tax breaks, etc. I think stores like Penny's are getting along, provided they do well during the Xmas season. It was mobbed yesterday on Black Friday.
  14. This is fantastic news. I have Burn Brigade, Dr. Chicago and a Ronnie Matthews recording and they are fantastic. I was always hoping that Beehive would come out in disc so I can't wait for this to come out. Thanks to all who made this possible, which I assume includes Mark.
  15. I had no idea it was that a bad place to work. I've often wondered how they stay in business as they seem to have few customers. However, they always seem to have everything you need.
  16. I received the corrected disk four years ago but never heard of the erratum. Didn't even know Savoy was still around. I just took a look at the site and it looks pretty moribund.
  17. Pretty good article. Thanks for posting.
  18. History favors the Royals. Recently, the team that is down 3-2 and has the last two games at home wins the WS.
  19. Baumgarner's performance last night was one of the best ones in recent memory. He's only 25. Could be one of the great ones! Let's hope the Giants finish it tomorrow but it will probably go seven.
  20. Thanks. Will keep an eye on the Elemental Music site. Thanks for the links! Boy, wish I could listen to this right now
  21. I work for the company that used to own Brachs. We sold it in 1986 as it no longer fit the profile; we wanted to focus on becoming a pharma company. Anyway, when we got ready to sell it, I headed out to Chicago, where the plant was located, to do due diligence. Every office had a bowl of candy, which people kept refilling. The plant had the sick sweet smell of candy being made. When we went down to the cafeteria near the manufacturing area, the smell was overpowering but you got used to it after a couple of days. For years, we could buy the candy in our company store at discount prices.
  22. The Brookmeyer is a great select.
  23. I was never a big fan in the 60s but now when I hear their stuff on the 60s station on XM, I realize how good they were. With age comes knowledge
  24. The team that doesn't know how to say no. Based on a stat they showed last night, they have a 67% chance of winning the WS. Amazing story.
  25. That is a heck of a story. Thanks for sharing it. Does anyone know how and where to order the set coming out in January?
