  1. Thanks for the feedback. I have the mono set and was happy with that. I grew up overseas and so had the UK versions, which always had more songs than a US version. However, I did have a couple of US versions and they didn't sync. For example, I had the UK version of the Stones' Between the Buttons (one of my favorite Stones albums) and when I saw the US version, my reaction was that they dropped a couple of songs. As far as favorite albums, The White Album is a group that can't get along. Not really an album. Don't think they made it together. However, does have some interesting sons. They were at the top with Rubber Soul, Revolver and Sgt. Peppers. Having said that I love all the albums. It's like saying which Rembrandt you like the most and least. Can't go wrong.
  2. I received an email from the Beatles saying the US Albums are due out today, as follows: "The new 13CD Beatles collection spanning 1964’s Meet the Beatles! To 1970’s Hey Jude has been released and mastered for iTunes. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of The Beatles first visit to the USA, The U.S. Albums, a new 13CD Beatles collection spanning 1964's Meet The Beatles! to 1970's Hey Jude, are released by Apple Corps Ltd. / Capitol." I don't know if this has been discussed before but how do these differ from the box they re-did in Mono a few years ago, or is this just another money grab.
  3. I thought it was a rather stupid article.
  4. Guess I will bite the bullet!
  5. Brad

    Herb Geller RIP

    Always enjoyed his work. RIP.
  6. I read him from time to time because I do get the New Yorker and have for years but these ideas and writing are just plain tortured. Not up to their standards.
  7. Marlon Byrd is hardly a template. The Phillies overpaid at $8 million per for a 36 year old. Mets have a catcher and although Hawkins had a nice stint as a closer he was nothing special in other roles an terrible the year before with the Angels. They got lucky with him. Bullpen help can always be located. Is Cano realistic? No, but they do have plenty of money freed up. It will just depend on Sandy and his master plan.
  8. That's on my holiday list along with the Duke Pearson.
  9. Although KC may not have played great teams, they are 9-1. That, in and of itself, is impressive. Much better than 2-14. Yeah, I watched last night's game. Cam is becoming a good QB and in certain respects reminds me of Randall Cunningham. Pats probably got screwed at the end with that no pass interference call. That call was right but holding could have been called, giving them one more play.
  10. How do you know? Maybe the Mets are making to look a big splash. Also, perhaps Jay Z is just trying to send the Yankees a message. Randy Levine said they're not meeting his demands.
  11. Jets will only go as far as their QB and he's consistently inconsistent. Rex is doing a good job this year. Most people including me only gave them a chance for 4 to 5 wins. They've got 5 already and, unless they really go in the tank, should win 7.
  12. Here in NJ it's like a nice fall day. Hard to believe Thanksgiving is around the corner.
  13. Not sure why we care.
  14. Although I can't say that I've listened more than once to all the Sonny albums I have, Tune Up, Constellation and DJ Lounge are musts and have been listened to repeatedly. DJ Lounge is just a cool album. Would have been nice to be there.
  15. Maybe impossible is or was in the printing industry.
  16. Someone should pay us to watch that!
  17. That Daily Beast review was quite revealing, particularly about the novelistic. That bothers me some but apparently there are nuggets there so it's probably worth a shot.
  18. What I read in these pages about Stanley Crouch tends to be on the negative. However, the reviews that people have posted here (thanks for that) have been positive so I will keep an open mind, not to mention Bird is what got me into this music. I'm sure he has agendas and he is a strong advocate for Wynton (which in and of itself does not disqualify him for me). Ben Ratliff does an interview with him in today's Times, http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/09/19/popcast-early-bird-and-kansas-city-lightning/?ref=books
  19. Considering how they've collapsed the last two years their run may be over. Not on the verge anymore. In the last few years, Mets have outdrawn the Yankees on the radio but that could be because Mets are on an all sports station while Yankees are on an all news station.
  20. I saw Harold and Eric Alexander a few years ago -- just the two of them -- and it was great. Got my photo taken with Harold.
  21. Great news on the Jordan. Important to support Mosaic. Would love a Beehive set. I have a couple of releases but not many.
  22. Obviously he was controversial; just read the posts here. However, that shouldn't prevent us from saying Rest in Peace for a productive life.
  23. Marc Myers had a nice remembrance over at Jazz Wax, http://www.jazzwax.com/2013/08/marian-mcpartland-1918-2013.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Jazzwax+%28JazzWax%29
  24. Jazz wax highlighted Bev Kelly and Pat Moran last night. Check them out.
  25. She and Steve Lawrence were a heck of great entertainers.
