I have heard of the Avakian Schaap stuff but don't take any position on it. However, when it comes to Albertson he is so prejudiced against Schaap -- he railed against Schaap for the Mosaic Bird Box for no reason -- that I wouldnt trust his opinion on Phil on anything; he's simply not a credible source on the subject.

Good to hear about the Beehive set. Can't wait to get it. Thanks for the update Aaron. Maybe by the fall or late in the year?

Yes, I saw that. In big matches, he seem to disappear. He was invisible in the second match at Juve and almost a no show in last year's UCL championship match against Athletico. -

Looks like Ancellotti is out at Real Madrid, according to MARCA. Benitez seems to be a likely choice. Bad move to fire the man who won you the Copa del Rey and the Decima. -
I'm generally with Moms on Phil. When I first became interested in Bird, he was a godsend. Like Mom said anyone can listen to the music, but he gives a lot of historical perspective. How many shows can you find anywhere that do that today on Bird. I grant you, at times, especially after you've listened to him for years, it can get a bit tiresome but thank god he is around is all I can say. I also love his Saturday Swing show and his participation on the Birthday shows. Yes, there was some negative vibes about him on this Forum, principally from Chris Albertson, although he wasn't the only one. In all fairness, he's had run ins with other jazz potentates and some of it was his fault. I remember he had a run in with George Avakian over the Goodman Carnegie Hall re-issue.

The League to Barca I can only hope Juve denies them the UCL title. -

And he may be too it seems. -
The King is dead. Long live the King. He touched us forever. When this young boy heard him for the first time, my life was never the same. RIP

The La Liga race is definitely over. I can't say how Barcelona will lose it at this point. Madrid's only hope is to win the UCL. If they don't, Ancellotti will probably lose his job, a shame. -
I thought it was 1 but ain't no genius!

Odd performance from Athletico, missing all the pressure they have applied to Real in the past. Imagine what the score would have been had Real been at full strength. Hoping that Real takes on Juve as that's quite doable. -

He's in love with himself, thinks he's a genius blah, blah. More tolerable than Mourinho. That's not saying much, however. -
"How Verve Got Gutted"

That is truly sad. A music label devoted to the soul of music being managed by a label that focuses on what can be hardly called music. -

Yes, extremely satisfying to see Chelsea go out. He acted like a fool when they recently won - yawn - the League Cup. -
Just finished up watching Peaky Blinders, an outstanding series. My son and I are now watching The Strain.

Unusual ways to open a beer bottle

When I was in high school in Barcelona, there was a kid who used to open a coke bottle with his teeth. He wasn't the brightest guy around, to point out the obvious. -
RIP Anthony Mason, Mase. He was part of the heart and soul of the Knicks in the 90s, a scrappy, tenacious player who was a lot like the city he was from and played. He was a heck of a player in his five years with them. Only 48, too young to go.

RIP, a legend, an iconoclast.

Just some thoughts on why I am somewhat tired of jazz
Brad replied to AllenLowe's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Some guy who was complaining that he was tired of jazz. Didn't catch his name. -
I always liked Tuesdays as a release day, particularly as it coincided with the release day for books.

I'd like to think that some of these non-jazz recordings helped pay the bills but I can't imagine Alice or Linus contributing to the bottom line, but what do I know.
