  1. Re-reading Hugh Thomas' The Spanish Civil War.
  2. This is a post that I can continue to recycle and recycle and recycle and ......
  3. Thank you all. It's the Big 60 this year! Oh, no!
  4. Giants still screwin' up but managed to get the win thanks to the defense. Another blown opportunity on the goal line.
  5. Think I have it but have to look. I just reviewed this thread and noted that I said some of the Black Lions were "interesting," a eupehmism that doesn't say a whole lot. I haven't listened to them in a very long time but the term "painful" also comes to mind. For those who haven't read the Paudras book, recommended. There's supposed to be a new one sometime in the distant future. Can't remember the name of the author right now but it's been discussed in this Forum before.
  6. 2:1 at the end. Liverpool goes from bad to worse. How far can they continue and deteriorate? I knew from the beginning that Hodgson wasas an awful choice. In addition, I listened to a BBC worldwide program last week, indicating their finances are in terrible shape and that it would be years before they would be near the top again.
  7. Guess we don't have to worry about those crazy playoff scenarios in the NL! Phillies are the pick to go to the WS. In the AL, hard to predict there since none of the three likely teams have been doing all that well (sorry Ranger fans!)
  8. Don't remind me but wasn't that 2007: the Glavine game, where the guy didn't show up against the Marlins and wasn't all that upset about it. Last game with the Mets, thank god. What would you expect him to do. You need to decide a division winner and then the winner should have the right to get the WC. I'm sure that Selig or the networks want additional play-in games as it delays the actual playoffs.
  9. Looks like the Braves are in serious trouble: Pods have won and Braves are getting shut out. I'm not sure how this works but if Pods and Braves win tomorrow, Giants and Padres play in a playoff and loser plays Braves for Wild Card. Not 100 per cent sure about that however.
  10. Giants and Braves still have the advantage but if Giants win today and Braves lose again, it could get dicey for the Braves.
  11. These athletes are just plain stupid, thinking they'll never be caught. This meat story is also a very convenient but well conceived story; it can't be disproven.
  12. I really can't see anyone but the Phillies making it. Their top 3 pitchers are phenomenol. Who wants to face them? The other teams just don't impress me. I also think the Phils could beat anyone from the AL but there's a long way to go before we get there.
  13. This just never ends does it? For the sake of the sport I hope it is just a food contamination problem.
  14. I saw last night's episode and thought it was pretty good, a good snapshot about how things were back in the 90s. I especially liked the part about Torre and the Latin ballplayers, especially how hard it is for them (as well as anyone else) to make it.
  15. Hey fans! Fake Michael Kay has been shut down. The real one is pretty bad.
  16. Ah yes, the Big Red Machine had to contend with the Dodgers, and the Pirates & the Phils knocked each other around in the '70s. Just to illustrate how good some of these teams were from that time, consider the following. From '72-'76 the Reds played better than .600 ball, so it's safe to say with wild cards they would have made it 4 straight years. Though it's difficult to make up a 3 division system for the time between the expansion waves of the early '70s until the early '90s that makes absolute sense (not that sensible geography is necessary in sports), it's possible that the Reds might have made the playoffs every year from '72-'81. Note they did not make the playoffs in the split season strike year of '81 despite having the best record. The Dodgers from '70 thru '78 probably would have made the playoffs throughout that run, which gives you an idea how much the Reds & Dodgers beat up on each other back then. Finally the Pirates from '74-'77 would have won in a wild card world. As would the Phils from '75-'78. Penn. state ruled baseball in those years (and before & after, as the above is just the "streak.") Of course such a playoff environment would have changed everything (meaning roster & trades, how the games were played with playoff spots on the line), and I'm not trying to detract from the Phils accomplishment one bit, just pointing out how adding playoff spots might have looked in the '70s. I'll leave it to the AL East crowd to figure out the AL "what if". It's hard to compare periods with the differing amount of teams that can make the post season. That being said they have been in two straight WS and I will be shocked if not a third. Doing that would be impressive.
  17. I had doubts when Liverpool hired Roy Hodgson and nothing has happened to dispel those doubts.
  18. Real Madrid won but on the Marca site, Casillas begged the fans for indulgence as the team coalesces.
  19. Not a great pick in my view.
  20. If you like KD, then this is for you.
  21. Friendly or no friendly, the Spanish loss to Argentina yesterday, 4-1, was an embarassment. Following the tie with Mexico, they better wake up and realize that as World Champions, everyone is going to be out try to beat them.
  22. Have decided to sell my Pacific Jazz Piano Trios, like Kevin. Mosaic Select 19, three CDs. Contains the music of Russ Freeman, Richard Twardzik, Jimmy Rowles and Clare Fischer. Very hard to obtain music and this Select is very OOP. Set number 4,981 out of 5,000. Price is $150, payment by paypal or money order. US shipping via UPS included, international will be via priority mail. Everything is in mint condition: Cds, inserts, box and book. This box set contains the music from 4 artists, Russ Freeman, Richard Twardzik, Jimmy Rowles & Clare Fischer. Most of this music has never been available since it was first released on various LPs back in late 50's/early 60's. Please Pm me if interested.
  23. Maybe they don't publicize as they don't want to affect sales of the hard discs themselves: apeealing to two different markets. Although Capitol or whomever owns the music, Mosaic probably owns the rights to the compilations. With music it seems the assets get very thinly sliced.
  24. I'm not a copyright attorney but I believe the answer is yes. You're depriving the holder of royalties.
  25. It is pretty unbelievable, particularly Chelsea. Wonder how many times that has happened. Their GF average can only go down from here!
