I watched this last night and as I went to the second night, I was glad to see the first night. I enjoyed Simon & Garfunkel, Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Wonder. There didn't seem to be much warmth between Simon & Garfunkel. Maybe time doesn't heal all wounds. The one thing I found a little strange but I guess it was done for ratings is that they put Jeff Beck and Springsteen as the last acts they showed; Springsteen had originally performed at the end of the first night and Jeff Beck as the second act of the second night. When U2 finished at 1045 last night, I figured that was a bit odd since he had finished the show when it was live. Apparently, HBO decided otherwise. I guess not a big deal but people watching last night would not have realized that the concerts were not shown in order.

I don't hear any facts here or in the media, just a lot of rumors and innuendo. You can speculate but no one really knows the background behind the story. Repeating what someone told you, who may have heard that from someone else and so forth, is not a fact.

The conventional wisdom at the end of last season was that Damon would be the choice over Matsui because Matsui is basically a DH and they want to use that position to rest several players. The biggest mistake you can make is to let emotion rule your decision; better to get rid of a player a year too soon than a year too late.

John Lennon Biography
Brad replied to Dave James's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
There's also the Phillip Norman book although I can't vouch for it. However, it appears to be comprehensive. -
This is on HBO tomorrow night, starting at 8.

I don't have a copy but Mosaic could make a copy for you I'm sure; they did that for me with the Bud Powell book. -

I think either Buster's or Board's son posted here a few years ago looking for information about his father. We gave all the help we could. I think it was in the Artists section.

Lon, Thanks. Have you ever played a Schecter and, if so, what do you think of those?

Someone I know is selling this guitar for $450. I think it's a S 500. Are these guitars good? Good deal?

I'm impressed. Sounds like business is taking off. -
Sometimes they have (or had) interesting used Cds. You just never knew what you were going to find there.

Wonder how many Jim got?

No, they're still around but when I got the email Saturday night, I thought the same. However, on Sunday I talked to one of the people who works there who I knew a little, little bit and she told me it was a rent thing. Near me, they have one near Wayne on Route 46 and one in the Willowbrook Mall.

Film on Pannonica

Same here. Will be watching. Thanks. -
For those who live in northwestern New Jersey, the F.Y.E. in the Rockaway Mall (off of Exit 35 on Route 80) is closing and they are having sales (20 to 40 percent). Apparently F.Y.E. and the landlord couldn't agree on the rent so they're closing the store. As they have a great selection of music and DVDs, it's a bit of a bummer.

ipods: is there something a non-hifi person can use
Brad replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Audio Talk
I don't know if this answers any questions (and if it's repetitous, sorry) but when I create a playlist and drag what I want in there, I only bring in what I want. If I bring in a whole album but don't want all its songs, I will delete those. I also think when you create a playlist, everything is automatically checked so it gets uploaded into your ipod or itouch. Others have already answered the question but when you uncheck a song, it doesn't get uploaded into the ipod. A few years ago, when my son got his ipod, I had to go and uncheck over 1,000 songs (at least) so they wouldn't get uploaded into his. It took awhile to say the least. -

I knew it was something like that, yeah. Still, Ringo was the last one out of the room, and Long & Winding turned out the lights on the charts. Anybody know why/how Ob-La-Di got issued as a single in the late 70s? WTF was that? I mean, I bought one just to have it, but was there some secret publicity move that I missed that necessitated a "new" Beatles single made of two old songs? Couldn't really find anything. Macdonald notes that McCartney wanted to release it in 68 as a single but the others opposed it. Maybe he got his way and the compromise was to have Julia on the B side. Just a uninformed guess.

My thoughts exactly. I actually prefer it the other way around but I too am happy to have both. Perhaps not so odd as, for better or worse, that is the version that most fans know.
