Besides what' been mentioned, this one is good: Louis Hayes featuring Yusef Lateef and Nat Adderley on Vee-Jay. Not sure how available it is, however.

This seems to be a relatively trivial problem compared to the music you've received.

The Yusef cd is one of the best cds I've heard lately. I don't have a lot of his cds and after I listened to this one, I'm asking myself why. His playing is just so strong. The rhythm section are top rate. They're killers man. Hugh Lawson? Yes! For those who don't like flute, give it a try. First there is not that much flute on here and his approach to playing the instrument is a sax conception. This gets a strong HELL YEAH! I've located a copy of Soul Sisters and I'm on my way soon to pick it up.

Well, I've got all the Reese on TOCJs so that's a pass and I don't know that much about the Liebman set but if it's a lot of soprano sax I'm inclined to take a pasadena.

I generally agree with Dan on this. I think we have too much going on already, what with the BFTs and the AOTW. I think if you want to highlight an artist, you can start a thread in the Artists forum and od it that way.

Nobody seems to have mentioned these that also came out on Tuesday with the RVGs: Gloria Coleman - Soul Sisters Archie Shepp - The Cry of the People Clark Terry - Chico O'Farrell - Spanish Rice Yusef Lateff - The Golden Flute I picked up The Golden Flute and have been listening to it at work. Even if you don't flute, this is good. There's a lot of Yusef on tenor. I really wanted to get Soul Sisters but somebody beat me to it at Borders so I'll have to order it. Others coming down the line include Tony Scott - self titled, and Stuff Smith - Cat on a Hot Fiddle.

Hal, That Carnegie Hall 1949 Disc is a great one: Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, etc. However, even though it is rare and hard to find, $50 is a little steep, even for me. Regarding your oop Mosaics, like the Clayton you should do well. On some of the others, like the Kenton Presents or the Gerald Wilson, I wouldn't expect to get more than what you could get by buying them from Mosaic directly. Good luck!

Since we're into obscurities (and I loved Count 5 and ?), does anybody rembember a song called I was Kaiser Wilhelm's Batman by Whistling Jack Smith. Yes, it was all whistling and it was damn good, from around '65 or '66.

BTW, his Basies are gone. Hal, I think that when it comes to your mother you should maximize your value. Of course, that may put it out of range of some people but you're here to help your mother, not us. Also, please remember that the price you sell to a fan will be different than what you sell to a dealer who will take a haicut off the price. For example, the Clayton which you might sell to someone on ebay for $250 will be somewhat reduced (perhaps by a third) when you sell to a dealer. When it comes to OOP Mosaics, it's all a question of supply and demand. For instance, with the Nat King Cole the price on that has varied from around $500-600 on down because it's not always in demand. When it is, watch out. Also with ebay, as you probably know, you can never account for someone who just has to have something.

The Stones. I was a big fan of their early albums that borrowed from a lot of the blues and loved their later 60s stuff like Aftermath (a classic) and Between the Buttons, which to me is one of the better albums made by anyone, any genre PERIOD! Not a big fan of their output after the 60s however.

WKCR (89.9 FM) in New York is having a Coltrane marathon (already started) that runs for 2 weeks for 24 hours a day. That's non stop Coltrane for 24 hours a day for 14 day. The web address is WKCR.

He's still under the Bird influence but finding his own voice. Don't get me wrong. I think these are very, very good and love them, as well as his sound. Don't forget LD + The Three Sounds. Excellent. I also love his Here Tis, organ stuff as well. They're different, that's all.

I like these but they don't overpower me. I like the ones Brownie referred to a lot better. I also find his work at BN better as a sideman than a lead.

There aren't that many Clay led date so I'd get excited and run for the bathroom. The Coleman is solid but not spectacular.

I just received a magazine called Special Jazz, courtesy of my recent order from SteepleChase and in it there's an ad from Storyville for, among other things, Dexter Gordon "At Highschool". Has anybody heard this? Any views?
