Spotlite has also put out Dexter Gordon - The Complete Dial Sessions. Although not on Dial, they've also put out Jay McShann Orchestra Featuring Charlie Parker - Early Bird, which are ecordings at Wichita, Kansas’ KFBI (November 30 and December 2, 1940), Clark Monroe’s Uptown House (1941/1942) and a Jubilee in 1943.

Well, there goes a few hundred dollars. And I just picked up the latest Jazztet put out by Argo. Can anybody spell Ebay? I have some, but not all, of the Dex stuff on Prestige but the most fascinating will be the Verve box. That is mind popping!

NEW!!! Blue Note Europe Bulletin Board
Brad replied to Aftab's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm with Jim and Grey on this. BNBB was nice but this place has turned into something very special, what with the Blindfold Test, the Album of the Week, etc. I don't really check AAJ and while I'll check BNE and I say a lot of familiar names over there already, this is where I like. A lot of good diversity here. Why try to reinvent something when the real thing is here. I also don't see the point of getting back into old arguments and I'm glad to see it didn't happen. I do wish that Kevin would post more here however. We can use as much information as there probably is to get. -
I have two cds that are copies of the lp: Sonny Stitt at the DJ Lounge and the recently reissued Sonny Stitt and Bennie Green's My Main Man.

Well, I got the Gil Evans so that's about my usual quota . I don't have the Woody Shaw or Dialogue so I think that's something I'd like to check out. Plus, I'd like to listen to the Duke set. Thank you again Randy for your hard work in putting these two discs together. I'm sure it took a lot of time and care and even though I may not have been keen on everything, I always appreciate the effort you and everybody put in to make these discs and get them out to everybody.

Eke, that's the one, after looking at Storyville's website. Thanks. It looks like it was just reissued this year. Chuck, it sounds like there's some of dispute there. Could you share some light?

Last night before I went to bed I heard on WBGO the host playing apparently a radio transmission of a concert/session at the Empire Ballroom in 1949. They were apparently playing an extended version of Take the A Train and C-Jam Blues, plus Passsion Flower. Take the A Train had extended solos from Ray Nance, Al Killian and Jimmy Hamilton, and others and each solo was annnounced in advance by an announcer whose last name I think was Smith. Well, I had to go to bed so I never got to hear the end of this. Does anyone know what cd or cd collection this may be from. Thanks.

Thelonious is a pretty cool name.

Is my Mosaic in the mail ?

Hmm, how do we coordinate our watches. Like one of those old spy movies? On your marks, get set.....

This is slightly off the mark and maybe I'm intruding because I'm not a musician but does anyone know what the song is named after. Was there really a Dewey Square or perhaps named after Miles, since his middle name is Dewey?

That's a crazy price for the Basie Studio set. That's the kind of price I'd expect to see for the Nat King Cole. I have the Live Set and I paid nowhere close to that. I would have liked to buy this set but bit by bit the music on this set is being released. So, I'll wait.

Man, it's your birthday? Happy Birthday, Parrothead! And here's hoping for better health for a couple of old farts .

I think Dan's last quote summarizes it quite as does this quote from couw: "But think of the costs, think of what you ask of your public, and think of the expectations you might put on others." We don't want to lose the audience and I find one cd in length to be just right. As far as what should be in, leave it to the compiler is probably the best advice we can give. This is a little bactrack from what I said yesterday but there'll never be agreement as to what is or isn't "jazz". I also don't think this is just "blahblahblah" but issues that should be discussed among us from time to time.

My setup, as follows: Rotel RCD 991 CD Player Arcam A75 Integrated Amp Vandersteen 1C Speakers ProJect Turntable Love all this.

Y'all probably no opinion on this; I think there should be a limit. To say that compilers should take listeners into account is desirable but very open ended. I'm not sure how that would be done. Also, this poll will only be meaningful, I believe, if we only get around 30 or so total votes.

What's the going rate for the Bud Powell Mosaic?
Brad replied to Dmitry's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I think I saw it a couple of months ago on Ebay for around $150 or so. If you're interested I can get you a xerox of the book that I got from Mosaic. -
This sounds very familiar. Trying to squeeze my listening in amidst demands from my son

The Cambridge CD/Radio player looks pretty nice. Not cheap but for quality what is? Thanks again medjuck and Dmitry. The Tivoli looks nice but I just want to keep it one nightstand.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check hifi.com. What's the rap on Bose?

Sob - selling my jazz CD collection
Brad replied to sashimi-jazz's topic in Offering and Looking For...
All year? Man, the year just got started . They're still tme. I, too, have gotten away from ebay quite a bit. Just don't have the time and they're just too many postings. -
There's a review in tomorrow's NYT by Ben Ratliff that isn't terribly complimentary. I read it this morning and perhaps someone can post it tomorrow.

I really think it's a good idea, Dan. I think focusing on one disc and giving it repeated listens would help the discussion. I find a double disc also gets a little overwhelming. I also think it forces the person to really focus on what he or she really wants to get across to the listeners.
-
I would like to get a good cd player that also has a clockradio for the bedside. Any help or suggestions? Is Bose the place to look? Thanks.

On the subject of what goes, I think we could use more discussion. Since this is a jazz board I think it should be jazz or jazz related. I know others may disagree but just because it influenced jazz doesn't mean it's "jazz", which I guess is also an open question. We should leave it the person doing the disc but I feel it must have some reasonable relationship to jazz. Another point is how many discs. I guess we can leave this the person doing it but frankly my preference is just one. I know that we all have a lot to listen to and I'd like to confine it to one. At least mine will be one. And, yes, I know this has been discussed before.
