  1. I like 'em all although I don't have the Melle. I just picked up the Foster/Wallington and that's great. My favorites are the Maggies however.
  2. I hope this is all totally tongue in cheek because despite what I said I went back and listened to the Tristano (Atlantic 1224) and I was quite impressed by the music making, esp. Line up and Requiem. His playing (as is the whole band's) on the live set with Konitz is also quite fantastic. I'm not sure I can afford the set though; I just found out I have to replace my brakes. Ouch
  3. This would seem to be a discussion for those in the high stratosphere of posts. Not us little postees
  4. I got the following in mini lp at a local cd store.
  5. Good to hear about the Dex set. Any news on the Granz set?
  6. Thanks for the feedback. Since I have Tenors Head On, it prevented me from making a buying mistake.
  7. Is anybody familiar with this album that was issued on Pacific, with Art Pepper and Richie Kamuca?
  8. That's only less distracting if you're blind . Is her face covered to protect your reputation
  9. Amen to that. Who owns the right to Xanadu nowadays. Is it Classic Records. I know that as of '98 their Prevue Division had reissued some of the Xanadu material like Barry Harris Plays Tadd Dameron and the Tokyo concert.
  10. The Charles McPherson must be the "Beautiful" title issued on Xanadu. I recently picked this up and it's well worth getting. He plays all standards but who could knock the selections. Impressive lineup too: Duke Jordan, Sam Jones and Leroy Williams. I'd call it a must pickup. More of the Xandau material needs to be reissued. I'm particularly thinking of Dexter's True Blue and the Bebop series that I don't think has made it to cd, for the most part.
  11. You asked, we deliver: Meet the Mets, Meet the Mets, Step right up and greet the Mets, Bring your kiddies, bring your wife, Guaranteed to have the time of your life Because the Mets are really socking the ball Knocking those homers over the wall. Oh their hearts beat true for the Orange and Blue So grab your hat and come right down 'Cause we've got ourselves a ballclub, the Mets of New York Town! Give 'em a yell, give 'em a hand, And let them know your cheering in the stands! Come on and.. Meet the Mets! Meet the Mets! Our hats are tipped for that swingin' set! Near the airport, near the bay Jets and Boats are so near to Shea! 'Cos the Great World's Fair is right down the road! A World of Tomorrow just can't be ignored. Roos-e-velt Avenue, the L.I.E. Will take you to the place to be! In a jazzy fedora or a pillbox hat We'll welcome you, and that's where it's at. Come share a slice of the toast of the town, you won't be bored when cheering our heroes in '64.
  12. Unfortunately, Jim, that didn't work. When I save it to a folder and then go to open it opens in Microsoft Picture Manager as an "x". There's something that's not working here. Does anyone have any suggsestions. I never had this problem with the Photo editor on my old computer.
  13. I love Barry Harris but this auction strikes me as a little nuts.
  14. Thanks Jim.
  15. I just got a new computer, a HP a430n with Windows XP and I have AOL. I was trying to copy a picture from a site to my computer but nothing was happening. I right clicked on the picture and chose the copy feature but when I pasted there was nothing there. The computer comes with Microsoft Office Picture Manager but I'm having no luck. With my old computer, I had Microsoft Photo Editor and this was never a problem. Do I need to get that? Any suggestions?
  16. For any James Clay addicts, you may want to take a look at the following James Clay auction. I'm not the seller.
  17. For me, it's mostly middle 40s to the middle 60s. That is my favorite period of jazz.
  18. Welcome, Moose and I are the ones responsible for balancing out those higher standards that everybody else brings
  19. That looks nice. I need to get away!
  20. I can relate to what vibes is saying. It's a strange feeling, that's true. About a budget, I had cut back but wanted to buy more and although I'd been selling off some excess cds, it wasn't getting me much. So, I've started selling some of my baseball programs and year books to pay for things. I've been collecting these since I was a kid but they don't mean that much to me any more. Plus, how much stuff can you keep that you've accumulated. I didn't know what to expect when I started selling on ebay but I've been pleasantly surprised. Without the money from these sales I wouldn't have been able to place an order with Hiroshi.
  21. On the Buddy DeFranco, do you mean In a Mellow Mood. I can't find Pretty Moods in AMG. Is this one of the cd with Sonny Clark?
  22. I never thought of paying him in dollars. Somehow letting him take the hit seems a little unfair. When I compared xe.com versus paypal, I was taking an $8 hit. Paypal has you coming and going.
  23. In this board, we always talk about Hiroshi's great service and it's true he has great service and his prices are the best. But I think he's outdone himself this time. On Thursday, Hiroshi emailed me that he had sent out an order that he's been putting together for me. I expected to see this around Thursday of this week, although I was hoping for Wednesday. However, I received it today and couldn't believe it. How's that for service. Heck, it takes some packages from New York to get to me in that much time. Hiroshi's service can't be beaten, in my view.
  24. I don't believe the Teddy Wilson is on the endangered list but even if it is I'd go for the Kelly set. The music (and the sound) is just superb. I don't have the Wilson set but I'd read a few comments here that after a while it got a little tedious. On top of that, you also get Frank Strozier in the Kelly set. That's a big plus, in my book.
  25. Or maybe they were taking up their tax(es) but forgot to take up the carpet first
